  1. Lokking good Jeff !! Im just glad I have a pictorial to go by for my build This will help me alot.I am slowly starting and already made a mistake, ( I thought ), but after looking at your log i see how i can fix it . Being my first build ,I see how people say directions are not totaly clear on all aspects of building order, I have been taking pics as I go so I can post my build (Maybe) we will see how it goes. Thanks again,
  2. I understand , I would just get some semi flat black spraypaint in a can or if you have an airbrush use model paint. I think I will look for some of the blackening solvent you have. I do Llike that look!!!
  3. Casey Not sure yet if minwax makes a waterbase ,if so i will try it ,if not i will have to see what the local hardware or diy has. As for glue I will be using Titebond II. I have used this on other wood projects and works well.
  4. Just my 2cents I kind of like the look you got on your pic, Almost antique looking, much better than black. Like I said just my opinion
  5. Russ,Caseyand Jay Thank you all for your input . I have always used Minwax on other things and I will see if thy have the little sample cans of both kinds and experiment ,like Jay said" The hard part is I have 5 decks to plank, sand stain seal ,all with exposed cannons, barrels ect.,one at a time inbetween frames. Well Iguess thats all part of the hobby (trying to figure out how to do it)
  6. What is the best way to stain and seal your decks, planking and other furniture on a model ship?? I am new to the static wood ship building and am not sure if an oil base would keep glue from sticking,Or how well a water base stain would work and look. I did get the paint kit with my kit and it is water base.. I am starting the HMS Victory Bow section and need to stain and paint as i go ,so before I go out and get some stain I thought I would ask the PROS. Thanks in Advance Ron
  7. Jeff I agree with Antony UK I would try a quality pair of scissors to take off the majority of material and file or sand to fit.. I have not done anything on ships yet but I have to tell you I will find out soon ,Saint Nick( aka my wife) surprised me early with this kit. I hope you don't mind but I will probably be using some of your changes on my kit. Now the research starts. Ron
  8. I am not much for saying or posting much as I watch and learn but I Just want to say you are doing a GREAT job I look forward to every post and pic. I will probably be purchasing this kit after New year's. I want to wish all here a Merry Christmas and a Happy Healthy New Year!!! Ron
  9. Jeff Thanks for the welcome. I'm sure I will be picking the brains of you and others for help .For now I will be paying close attention to your log and pics. Ron
  10. I just want to say that this is my first post and I have been wanting to build a wooden ship.I saw this model and thought it would be a good first one to try.It has a little bit of everything without the overwhelming of doing a complete ship. I found your build site and want to say you are doing a GREAT job. I do have some scratch building experience on a 1/24 scale rc tug,and with your pics and experience I have the confidence I can do this too.I will be following this to the end Ron
