Dont get it. The oppenings are 9mmx9mm. The disc is very big for that.... how did you did it? Did you cut the disc in a smaller diameter. I use the dremel drill. Meking a number of holes and then connecting them together and cleaning the h opening with files and sand paper

Its not a stupid question you got there. The answer is that the dvd has detailed pictures and instructions where the mesuarments are given in various ways.  Extra to that there is a big coloured picture scale 1:1 ( showing every view of the ship) where you can actually mesuare everything.

I used a smaller diameter disc in the Dremel, and cut down from the top.I then restored the planking and painted the new wood black.neat trick that worked very well.

I see. Ok its a way to do it. But you destroyed your nice planking. Anyway its not a bad idea.

Not really,part of the fun fir me is trying different techniques.I was not sure if the Dremel would work but with a steady hand it did a good job.

As you can see,the Dremel makes a nice clean cut and you simply plank up the top and paint it to form the gun port.

THe deck grate is actually a heavy diecast piece.Looks pretty good if you paint it brown and plate it with mahogany.

I decided to paint the inside of the bulwarks red!Cool!

I got lucky and found some plastic that matches the yellow just about perfectly. I really like the diecast pieces that AL provides for the bow railing.Just glue on some mahogany, flip it over ,drill a hole and run a square section needle file though it to make the square holes.

Construction was delayed while I purchased,routed,inlayed the bases,countersunk,sanded,stained and sealed tbe base board.I did get the cat heads on though.

That's right. Steps for crew to climb the hull from small boats to the upper deck.

Yeah makes sense but not all ships had those steps.Glad the Tite Bond grabs so fast!

Thats correct about the steps, they weren't common place until the later half of the 17th century and disappeared at the beginning of the early 19th century. Even then usually only found on larger ships.

 

With those types of items like the steps and the channels I like to use fine pins inserted through the piece leading into the hull. This will give it more 'teeth' it help keep it in place.

Put the side rail on with brass stanchions. Might cap the rail with mahogany.

Threaded a guitar string through the top of the brass stabchions and put on the boards that will hold the deadeyes for the ratlines and shrouds.

Good idea the guitar string. Arent there any cannons and cannon ports to make?

Nope all of the cannon ports are made as far as my ship is concerned!

This ship, now in real life, most likely will have students, etc. on board as part of the crew so the insurance company probably forced them to add the screening. Your earlier version (before the rebuild) only had real sailors on it, the insurance company didn't care so much about them!
