Bluenose by Gary D - Billing Boats - 1:75

Recommended Posts

I am in the process of picking up where I left off 45+ years ago. I am new to this forum and ship building in general. My wife got me a Christmas gift early in our marriage.  Assembled the hull w planking and the moves and career put everything on hold.  So far I’m planning by reviewing info I can find online, creating a workplace, deciding what tools, I need and my next step.  I’m trying to find out about what fittings I need and where to get them as none were included in kit back then.  And that scale (1:75) is no longer made by Billings.  I’ve worked through some builds on this forum and will continue till I feel ready. Any advice greatly appreciated.

I've been building the Bluenose II and found the best way forward is to read instructions a bit ahead of where you are currently, that way you can decide on what tools or supplies you need and get them before you need them.  I find a lot of what I need on Amazon.  If you buy only what you think you'll need next you won't waste money on stuff you don't use.  Just a thought.

Hi Gary...

Found your build log... You will have no problem finding all the fittings from the specialty shops involved in this hobby for this build.

Best to look ahead and make a list of what you think you may need and then I would look at Cornwall Model Boats out of England for them all...

Please post any photos of your progress as certainly you will get lots of help and suggestions on this form...

Good luck!

Julian

Thank you very much for the replies and recommendations. I will definitely follow through with both ideas. Once I set up my workstation I will take some photos and post them. I get the feeling I can move forward from this step without any of the fittings to see if I have it it takes to actually do this after 45 years of thinking about it from time to time. I believe my next step is making a hull smoother finding out what filler to use to smooth it out further.  I’m not too far away from painting the hall I don’t think. Thanks again.
