Since more than a week, we have 35° C in the day- and more than 30° C in the nighttime and in between some days of storm, so watering the garden and Siestas in the shadow are the way to go. The humidity is about 15%, which dries nose, eyes and brain and the weather will stay at least for another week like this, phew :X:.

Modelling wise, I made only little progress with the DoK and only managed to prepare one spar with lifts, footrests and other fittings. I should emphasize a bit more on the knots, as my basic household knotting isn't up to the game. I will simplify, but not too much.
I will pre rig all the spars next, followed by the pre rigging of the masts, but it will take some time and maybe a tiny in between build :D.

Cheers Rob

Hello DocRob, doing some research on the Duchess of Kingston,  I came across this  log, and it's the first one I see that has a ships boat. May I borrow that idea. It looks impressive.  The whole log is amazing,  I'll be back.. lol Hope you find some time to continue,  she's a great build .

Thanks Bob and I have not given up on the Duchess of Kingston, but have other projects to finish. The DoK is my first real wooden ship build and due to the quality of the kit, it was surprisingly straight forward until I entered the rigging stage.
I like busy looking decks and thought, the addition of a boat would exactly work that way. Construction of the little thing was not the easiest, but I like the look of the finished boat on deck.
I also have the Sphinx kit on my shelf and was really happy to hear, Chris is planning on sets of printed boats for her.
Please feel free, to equip your DoK with a boat as well. I really like to see, how yours is looking finally.

Cheers Rob

I was going to purchase ship's boats from Shapeways, they offered exactly what i needed for the Tennessee. The boats were expensive but I thought they well worth the price because of the quality. Unfortunately Shapeways filed for bankruptcy this past July.

Shapeways didn't print anything themselves, they offered items printed by independents that Shapeways then marketed on their web sight. This has left a void in the marketplace that as of now is going unfilled.

Current Builds:  1870's Sternwheeler, Lula

Wood Hull Screw Frigate USS Tennessee

Decorative Carrack Warship Restoration, the Amelia

Completed: 1880s Floating Steam Donkey Pile Driver

                       Early Swift 1805 Model Restoration

Rob, unfortunately Chris doesn't offer ship's boats in the scale and time period the Tennessee requires. Shapeways also offered figures in 1:120 scale. Other than Shapeways, I've been unable find another source for naval figures in 1:120 scale from the 1870 to 1890 time period.
