After all, it's higher society and official documents! But it's probably like today: only lawyers speak in the language of legal acts, and even then in more formal circumstances.

When Eugen (@greenstone) showed these wonderful Dimensions of Ships on the forum and at the same time pointed out the source of this document (the library), all to be done was to follow up and look through all the digitised documents of the period there...

Unfortunately, not all documents have been digitized or posted on the library's website.

Waldemar, You beat me to it😁

I was just planning to inform the public about this document.

Eugen, please accept my sincerest apologies. But maybe there are some other relevant documents? I promise I would not interfere anymore...

🙂

Perhaps you are in a position to change that...? At least for documents on maritime matters.

It is very good that there is an opportunity to exchange information that is available in archives and libraries of different countries.

I am sure this will allow us to get a full understanding of all the issues.

There is a lot of information about the Royal Navy in the archives of Russia.

Many documents have not been scanned and thousands of pages with useful information for us have not even been read by anyone over the past few centuries.

Researchers will have many discoveries

I hope so.

It was a joke!😉

I am glad that you took the initiative and started the search on your own.

Go on!!!!

Information should be useful, not a dead weight.

The state of the French Navy, July 1st, 1691

Another absolutely incredible document, listing all the ships, the organization and the officers of the French Navy down to midshipmen.

Written in Russian, but otherwise very easily readable.

Martes, this is just another gem! You should definitely move it to a separate thread with an appropriate title so that it is more visible and searchable. What do you think?

Browsing the same folder, I saw two very interesting documents relating to Sweden (naval articles and a general report on the country) and a book on French naval signals (all for 1690s), but they are written in more elaborate and dense font and are slightly more difficult to read.
