Julie, you haven’t seen anything until you watch a seagull try to choke down a mud puppy 😀

This is a cruel tale to tell but.........Seagulls are indeed rats with wings. If you throw food scraps  in the air they will normally catch it on the way up, if not their buddies will get it on the way down. In Alaska we'd take our unwanted leftovers out on the dock and throw the scraps out for the gulls. Every now and then one of the meaner lads would throw an Alka-Seltzer tablet into the air and of course it would get caught and promptly swallowed. A couple of minutes later and poof, lots of feathers and a dead seagull.

It was a horrible thing for someone to do but during the seemingly endless days of the salmon season, for some, life could get too boring.

Julie, regarding your post..........'they paved paradise and put up a parking lot' Greed never changes its stripes. Unfortunately it's a part of our flawed human nature. Much akin to throwing Alka-Seltzer to seagulls.

It is also curious as to why the Wawona was shredded like 1600 Pennsylvania ave.  In the dry dock.  Granted the timbers were rotted.

I think one of the main reasons that the Wawona was scrapped was due to a gross lack of $$funding. The city of Seattle wasn't interested in participating financially in the Wawona project.  In fact, I recall that the city wanted the Wawona removed from her berth on South Lake Union as a public danger and eyesore.  There also was a proposal to include the Wawona as the centerpiece of the South Lake Union Park

The wood salvaged from the Wawona was used by Seattle artist John Grade to create a series of sculptures now in private collections.  Another of the Wawona sculptures resides in the Seattle Museum of History and Industry (MOHI).

At least the salvaged wood was used to create something that could be enjoyed in the future.
