USS Saratoga CV-3 1936

Greetings!

Just completed, Trumpeter 1/350 scale USS Saratoga circa 1936 with 72 biplanes.

I have not yet decided on placement of the air group so the photos will show various arrangements. I may also add crew figures once the aircraft positioning is finalized.

The build included various photo etch sets, Starfighter decals, scratch built details and items from the spares bin. Some of the kit parts were modified to better reflect Saratoga in 1936.

Thanks for having a look, questions and comments always welcome.

Cheers,

Bill

Congratulations, looks great in all respects.  The finish, colors, shading, and rust are spot on.  Aircraft are remarkable.  How long did the project take?

Many thanks!  Not sure exactly how long, probably 700 hours over 10 months.  The 72 biplanes required many hours of tedious close up work.

The clear styrene Trumpeter used for the biplanes was difficult to work with.  Photo etch from Tom's Modelworks and Gold Medal Models really made a big difference, but was a challenge to work with, lots of tiny parts.  The Starfighter decal set was fantastic with accurate markings for each individual aircraft.  Thanks again!

I have this kit sitting next to my work bench.  Your gallery is inspiring.
