  1. 1st, I want to add a bend to the outer water way. 2nd, the first planks in and 3rd I don't like my filler block as much as I thought I did. Too sharp of angles. I know I can use a lot of filler if need be, it gets painted, but my goal is to learn to plank.
  2. How do y'all get text between photo's? I like the filler block. Hope it works. Thanks to following Nirvana's log, I installed the elusive great beam. Cutting the bulkheads (stantions?) is how I cut myself. I switched to a saw I have. Finest blade I've seen. I could only draw the saw toward me, not push it back away.
  3. If I understand it correctly, I found one piece with the rudder and see where that goes. It had to be cut in half. Then there's the great beam that's .09X.2" and the shorter one next to that so that my sailors have something to trip over. I just don't see the pre-cut parts for the great beam. I can fabricate to within .02". It looks like it'd be about 1/64" off.
  4. All the way back to page 1. I found the piece that goes parallel to the bulkhead, but not the other 2. I assume I can just make them, right?
  5. Please tell me more about that. I have Laucks practicum by Bob Hunt, but it's too simple. Not "learning" anything from it.
  6. I think I built my first model when I was 7. I'm sure I cut myself then. I think I cut myself at least once per model. Today I cut myself twice. At least in the old days it was an e-acto. This time it was with a scalpel.
  7. I'm familiar. I had one. That's why I'm looking some more. It's not the highest quality.
  8. I'm printing that up so the old man can read that.
  9. Isn't there a jig to help with the installation of bulkheads?
  10. I've decided I don't like Lauck's practicum by Bob Hunt. It's too simplified. I need to learn about strakes...etc. and he just shows the ship being planked.
  11. A line from Horatio Hornblower in book one. My old Navy neighbor insisted that there was no such thin as a rope on a ship. Thus my question.
  12. What's up with the abandoned ship? You're the captain, were you last off the ship?
  13. Great! I love this old man. After 71 years, he just got 3 out of 7 medals he earned. He's still owed 4 battle stars. I was the first person he show and I had the honor of pinning them on him.
  14. When I went to pay it was $140. Said $165 My friend said it's the exact same ship. He's 91. I hope he lives long enough for me to finish it.
