Mike is teaching me this process and the other day it hit me and I can see so many uses. I use 1" masking tape against the frame. I can pull the tape off and lay it on wax paper so I can mark it on a hard surface and place it back to mark the frame. Also I used some really strong plastic Velcro to mount a palm sander upside down. I don't turn it on, I simply drag a planks edge across. Took a lot of practice, but on box wood it works great.

Band A and B done. Time to mark of C and see what's up with D. I'll start with D next and go back to C last. I've been using the proportional dividers to mark off the bands. Since I laid 2 planks in at the top to follow the curve of the hull, I have 3 bands of 7 - 1/8" planks per band. So far that's exactly how it's laying out. Looks like D will be something like 3/4" with a steeler or 2.

Thanks, Bro-in-law! Okay so, I know, I know, plank both sides evenly... That means they'll both be hosed. This way I have a chance to learn from each side. Got the bondo sanded down, 80 grit, 120, 180, 220, 300, 380, 600 and just for fun, 900. Anyone want's to remember what a baby's but feels like... Mikeik is helping me through pm. Got some nice proportional dividers. For those considering them. Don't go with the $30 jobs. You get this ornate wooden box, beautiful. And something made of tin inside. I bought these: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001DIC524/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Saved a long time for these guys. $120 amazon prime. Pics in a few, I never showed the water way I have installed thus far. And please welcome my brother in law, Terry Lampen. He's a model builder of all things plastic. Just retired and getting back into it after 97 years. Let's win him over to the dark side.

If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
