    Hello Everybody,

Sorry for the lull in posting, I'm still playing catch up on the second model and progress has slowed on the first.  I've also been wiped out with Ragweed alergies for the last two weeks.  I'd rather have the flu!

I was able to assemble the pilot house and notch the roof trusses in place.

Cathead, I wonder as well how the original was done.  This method seems to work but it is only as guess.  With the trusses notched in place, they seem very rigid although I wonder if I should have added two more vertical timbers midway between the center and the ends.  I'm with you about the poor stewards that had to deal with the chamber pots.

Yes Kurt, I wish you could have been here as well.  I'm also dissappointed that I will have to miss the NRG conference this year as well.  I will miss seeing everybody.

WackoWolf, thanks for the comment,  except for the ragweed, everthing is fine, just a little slow with Heroine 1.  I think things will pick up this next week so I should have much more to post.  I'll be taking a break from the Glass Wreck on the weekends so I should have some time for posting.

Steven,  I wish I had the time to do a build log of Serce as well.  The shape of the reconstruction has evolved a bit and we'd like to get the info out there.  Maybe when the Heroines are done I can post what I have.  I hope no one minds that I put up two photos of the model.  I was a little light on Steamboat photos.

The pilot house.  The four moulded panels were milled and the planking added.  This is only a test fit.  It will sit slightly higher when the hurricane deck is planked and canvassed.

Test fit of the roof trusses.

Two photos of the Serce Limani vessel (Glass Wreck) 11th  Century Byzantine Merchant vessel.  Possible preview for future Build log.

Quite unexpectedly ended up in Hamburg maritime museum. Unfortunately I only had 45min to visit it, and the museum is big - 9 floors of maritime history! It was also full of great models, including Oliver Cromwell! I was really surprised to see it in the museum, considering a very boring history behind that ship.
The model is good, seems to be done in a fully framed manner, but 95% planked. There is a small opening in the bottom of the hull, which is barely visible.
Sorry for the poor photo quality, museum has a soft light which makes it cozy, but hard to make photos (especially on a phone)

    Thanks steamschooner and Michael

Michael,  It's good to hear from you again.  I hope you had a great time while you were away.  I've missed your posts and look forward to seeing you back at it!

I spent all of this last week finishing up the bunks and interior planking.  I still need to add the rails to the bunks and my wife has volunteered to make all the mattresses.  I've started on the windows -- just the interior side of the frames.  I'll add the mica and outer half later after the walls are painted.  This makes it easier to paint the exterior frame before installing it.

Close up of three completed window.  I really like the effect of the mica - Thanks druxey for suggesting it.

I've been busy laying out the internal structure on the boiler deck so I haven't had the opportunity to get many photos.  Just a few here to show progress.

The internal walls would have been planked and then the bulkheads added.  I'm putting the bulkheads in first and will then plank between them.  This will allow me to economize on wood by using shorter pieces.  It's amazing how much planking this model requires and I'm running out of the long lengths.

The arches over the paddle box are just about complete.  I still need to add the steps up over the arch and the exposed planking will be painted white on the starboard side.

    Thanks everybody,

I'm sorry that I didn't get a chance to respond sooner.  The family spent the day swimming with at the inlaws house.  It was nice to come back to your encouraging comments.

Bob,  I finally decided on the Ronan flake white.  I wanted to try Admiralty but, it only came in sets of colors and I would have needed a couple sets to get enough white.  I bought a bottle of Tamiya and it gave nice coverage but the water base penetrated the wood and with the long strakes of unsupported planking I was afraid there might be some flexing.  The ronan is semi paste but with a little mineral spirits and a soft brush it covered well with two coats but still gives a whitewashed look.

I used the photos below of the Ellen Hardy as an example of the effect I wanted.  I think I will still use the pastels to give it a weathered look.

Greg, Yes the edges of the planks are chamfered.  The original planks were 5 inches wide including a 1/4 to 5/16 inch tongue leaving about a 4 3/4 inch face with about a 1/4 inch bevel on each side.  The inner face had no bevel.

Manufactures fasteners for the model. It must be securely and efficiently. Just do fairleads and propeller shafts.

Along with the main work on the body of the device, prepare brass sheets for covering the underwater hull. I bought the usual paper guillotine but replaced the knife and a table on a solid carbon steel. The sheet thickness of 0.3 mm. Guillotine blades with new cutting very precisely and as a hot knife through butter.

It's time to materialize virtual development.
Thus, in the construction of two identical spacecraft to the body size of 2350 mm (between perpendiculars)
I ordered the joiner bars for housing, because at home (without equipment) to make this work is not possible. I used alder wood.
Total (for two vehicles) 20 parts (with the largest size details 9000H300H900 mm). I rented my friend big CNC milling machine.
