Firstly a quick intro....I am now "semi retired from the financial services industry and apart from cycling was looking for a hobby where I could use my long lost skills as a model boat builder. I built a number of model boats in my youth...all plastic but always had a wish to try my hand at wooden boats. At the end of last year I took the plunge and bought my first wooden boat kit...."Cadaque" from Artesania Latina. A great way to test my skills and patience. I thoroughly enjoyed building it despite numerous errors and some dodgy fixes...overall though I was hooked. My next model is from Modelers Central...HM Cutter Mermaid. I am in the throes of completing this model and am already researching my next build. I'll probably go for another Modelers Central model ( Colonial Ketch Mary Byrne or the Colonial Schooner Port Jackson). I hope to post my buildlog when I start my new build and look forward to any assistance from the experts on this great website.

Welcome Shane. I may sound like a broken record but try searching You Tube for video on your specific model and also for any which may strike your fancy. I found a lot of help because if I see it I can usually do it. I, too am retired(disabled part army related) so I have time. Since I live in Minnesota it is a LONG drive to the sea but we do have Great Lakes to watch. My male family members served, and some died, in the Pacific in 1942-45. Looking forward to pictures you can post.

Have taken a stab at model ship building (HM Cutter Mermaid 1817) and have enjoyed it so much that I have taken on Amati HMS Bounty. Your forum is absolutely fantastic and the wealth of information and friendliness is staggering. I have spent hours researching the forum not just on Bounty but also general topics. I joined NRG in October of 2016 so I guess I'm still a new guy. First ship I built was the Pickle and am now working on the Niagara. For 3 months in Summer I'm in Spring Lake MI.

Oh I am very excited, I wish I knew more about it, whether it was built by my friends late Grandfather or by someone else entirely. I've been digging around a bit to try and find someone with heavy knowledge on the subject, my location will make that fairly easy, just a matter of finding them, i'll make sure to keep you all informed, whether I find out more information or when I go ahead on the resto.

Welcome to MSW Dylan! Not for certain but the turrets at the bow and stern bring to mind the La Couronne, French Ship 1637. The Fleur-di-lis also back this up. There are many discrepancies though, including that 1580 year stamped on the sail that could either be wrong or indicating a different ship altogether. I hope you can find out some more information about her! In any case, take a look at my Couronne build, link in my signature. If this is her than it may be of some help and if it's not, well it still might give you an idea of a similar vessel.
I wish you the best of luck and I will keep an eye out for your log as seeing these old relics get restored is fun to watch!
P.S. I also have that book Frankie mentioned and it is extremely valuable for rigging ships of this period. I recommend buying it!
