bigcreekdad got a reaction from EJ_L in Treenaling....wish I hadn't done this
Used my smallest drill bit. Hole alignment leaves much to be desired, but I'm more disappointed in how this looks other than alignment.
I used wood filler.....maybe too dark, but I'm not at all thrilled with this.
Any thoughts? I'm far from looking for someone to convince me it looks good, so have at it.

I think I now get it... I'll post a pic when I replank...BEFORE I consider treenailing
BTW...the ship is Dos Amigos....kit wood is abysmal...likely won't use any of the kit planking wood.

Jan....I did ask for everyone's thoughts, so I I won't whine.

Alas...I just don't get it. I looked at the attachment, and on page 2, version 2 looks like what I did.
I'm just trying to build a ship for enjoyment...maybe I'll stick to tying trout flies. LOL.

I graduated from college, but I have no idea what you are talking about.
I talked to my insurance agent. She'd be happy to insure it.

I'm going to scrape with the razor blade, as advised, and the apply a medium dark stain. If I'm not satisfied, I'll plank over it.
This is doubly frustrating as I bought and milled my own planks with some very nice maple I got at Woodcrafters.
Thanks for all the suggestions.
Live and learn I guess. I do want to treenail my next ship (Fair American), so I will put way more thought into it.

Chuck...after some serious sanding and a semi dark stain, it still looks like crap. I am going to replank.

bigcreekdad got a reaction from Bill Hime in What is your favorite wood to plank the deck?
Thanks to all.I've picked up some maple. I'm going to partial plank it...treat it (maybe gun oil) and see what it looks like.
