Dang - those are some harsh critics! Probably still upset they aren't going on a cruise, like "some" people...

She is looking absolutely fantastic, Augie. "You Know Who" should be pleased to see some pictures as well!
Don't you just love the weather? Sunny and 79 F here today...

You may also be able to work from the hull templates for some of the bulkheads. Depending upon how many are provided, you may need to interpolate using the lines drawings to fill in gaps.
-
Wrong color scheme, but almost looks like a USCG Hamilton Class Cutter!
-
Take your time and make it the way you want, Sjors - it is a beautiful model! We can wait for pictures....

This is a wicked neat topic - thanks for sharing it with us!

Thanks, Keith, Jerry, Adrieke, Anja, John and Sarah. I got the chainplates for the port side made last night - with any luck I can install them tonight. Of course, if I do that, I loose my excuse for not getting the main mast stepped and rigged....
Jerry - I think that, given a choice, I would take Naples over Fayetteville most of the year. Thanks for stopping by!

Very nice work, Sir. Enjoying this build!

Dang - that's a bigger difference than I would have thunk! Wonder if the actual Dallas was a larger plan (Doughty had 3 - 30, 51 & 74 ton if memory serves).

No Problem. I was surprised Marquardt didn't have any - his 18th Century Rigs & Rigging book has a plethora of that type of information!
-
Lavery has some pretty good tables in his Susan B. Constant. I did not locate any in Marquardt's Endeavor.

Looks good, Jared. I think if you want to step up the realism then this is a good start.

That is an amazing piece of work, Sarah - Congratulations!
-
Superb work, Adrieke. The stairways and rails came out beautifully!
-
Off to a good start, Jerry - look forward to watching this one progress!

Thanks, Augie, J. and Keith. Almost into the home stretch now!
I opted to go with the white - let me know how you think it looks (I borrowed that super-sized penny from Sarah for the pictures)!
Overall view - main mast is just loose fit for now. Once i get the larboard chainplates installed will finally get it stepped and then add the stays and shrouds. Main stays are just loosely to the eyebolts for the time being. Also finally got the rudder installed and wheelhouse mounted at the stern.
Next step is larboard (port) chainplates, then install the main mast, gaff, and associated standing rigging. Still a bunch of little bits to finish (some cleats, the boats, the binnacle and bell) but starting to sense the end coming near.

Fantastic job, Jim. Congratulations on getting her done!
The pool looks very tempting...hope you aren't planning on a seaworthiness test....
Enjoy the wagon - they look like fun kits as well!

Looking very nice, Jared. Very nice indeed!

Thank you, Sarah.
As you may remember, i was not totally thrilled with the way the chainplates looked on the the foremast. I tried several times to come up with a solution but couldn't get any of my attempts at silver soldering to turn out clean enough. I opted to try something different on the main mast. I am using heavy line with a liberal application of CA to simulate the chainplates. Instead of nailing them to the hull, I am using sime wooden battens (think rubbing strakes) to help hold them down. I got the starboard side installed, just need to paint the strakes.
Thoughts?
Chainplates on the Foremast
Chainplates on the main mast
So - do I paint the wood white or black? I am leaning toward black to help hide the inconsistencies.
Until next time -

That is one beautiful looking ship, Sjors. Very nice!

Looks good - very generous of you to provide the passengers with such luxury!

Okay - try this one!
