Very nice!, I hope someday to learn your style of subtle weathering. Could you explain what you used for the aged effect of the deck?
/Matti
Salute Matti,
I don't deserve such words which indulge me...
I use a solution of wood protector in walnut color, then flat varnishing.
-
Salute John,
I am thankful for your encouragement...
I glued the ropes to the deck with this cement. It is transparent, gets dry about 10-15 minutes, lets me manipulate, does not change the color of the robe, does not concrete the robe as CA, let the robe be flexible and is removed very easily after getting dry... Ideal for rigging... There is more than enough...

Hi Hamilton,
She will be great with the corrections you made and will make to the kit, congratulations...
-
Hi Matti,
An used aspect of the wood, a paint faded and soiled in time are also my preference for natural look, you are right...
-
The color of walnut is looking attractive as and with the paintings...
-
Salute,
Through the photo it seems to me as between claret red and brown...

Salute,
Beautiful painting...
Returning her to the original condition is much more difficult to build her through the beginning...
Victorious restoration...

Ferit,
Hi. I have some questions regarding your capstan. I now realize that the one I installed on my current build is all wrong, and as BE about the "not period appropriate" style (I'm sure learning a lot reading on MSW). So;
1) how did you cut-in those square holes? I don't see stacked "slices" in your wood at the cut locations?
2) your vertical braces, did you stack the woods and then Dremel them into shape?
Thanks for your time.... Regards Michael
Your are welcome Michael,
Yes,there are very scholarly people here, virtuosos of modelling. Knowledge and skill. MSW is an excellent source for me too.
1) I pierced a hole with drill, then I cut with blade the four corner into the shape of square.
2) Vertical braces were provided by Corel but the shape of each brace is different from another. I had to give them uniform shape, by cutting and sanding.

Salute John,
With every part, every accessory added, she looks really more greater.

Ahoy JPett,
Yes, as you say; she is an expensive lady. But If I will be able to realize this project, it is possible that the building goes on 3-5 years in the most optimistic estimation. After the price is devided by months, it doesn't cost a lot for a hobby like this... But she is very difficult, I know...
-
Ahoy JPett,
Sure that she will be excellent by reason of your perfectionism...

Very nice work on your capstan Ferit, that early type is I believe called a crab capstan and is appropriate to the period of your build. Berlin just wouldn't have looked right with the later style fitted to Victory.
Regards,
B.E.
Unfortunately... As I like capstans of later style, I have to build a ship of this period. But I had decided to build next time - if it will be possible - Corel, Wappen von Hamburg.

(no capstan in sight
)
She is very beautiful to me and the scale is 1:40 as Berlin.
These two as in the same ratio, they will be seen natural in respect of one another, I think...

Salute İlhan,
Excuse me for my carelessness, I read three times and found that the answer has been in the text: The nail polish...
-
Hello İlhan,
I am sure, that is not such easy as you describe, it would be very hard.
But still may I ask;
How the solution does not attack to the other side of the brass?
-
Matti, John, Michael and Keith; thank you all for showing interest and for your kind comments.
Keith; Corel mentions the wood as african walnut. The light color that you view in some pictures, is its natural color become pale in time. When the wood has been crisp, the color was little more darker. In the other pictures, the darker color of the wood that I rather prefer, occurs after being treated with wood protector solution in walnut color, then flat varnished. The deck planks are from hornbeam wood treated with the same solution and flat varnished.

Salute,
Finally the progress...
As the King progresses, your talent grows more attractive...
-
Salute,
Excellent work, especially the shrouds and ratlines are fantastic.
May I ask; were the black ropes provided by Corel?

Friesland, in my opinion is one of the attractive and beautiful ship.
It will be pleasant to follow the steps and the stages of her building. It is unconscious to suspect how she will be built, good or not...
After the ships you have already built and after the pictures of the beginning of the Friesland, I am sure that I will be addicted to your log.

Excellent work with the enhancements,.... I wll refer to this log often when I commence my Berlin. Keep the updates coming!

Fantastic work Ferit -all the details are amazing. Love the windows and doors.
Hello Ferit
Your Berlin is one Beautiful vessel.
The added parts made from scratch are remarkable and have very informative construction details, Thanks you for posting how you created such pieces. There is no comparison between your pieces and the kit provided attempts (I was going to say kit provided equivalent, but there's nothing equal between yours and theirs, except where they failed, you succeeded wonderfully). I really like your use of credit cards and CD cases. The black windows are very realistic.
Looking forward to seeing more of your wonderful construction.
Salute Ponto, Buck and Keith;
These compliments are from your generosity and I am quite thankful for your expressions...
And Keith; your motto "Whatever you do will be insignificant, but it is very important that you do it." makes me feel better...
