  1. Yes I was thinking too do it by myself too. Thats probably cheaper but its a bit more time consuming 74 canons using total 5 eyebolts so that going to be 370 hahaha. But its a way thanks for the link I think I will try to do that
  2. These are the smallest they have. What would you take for sizes of deadeyes and rigging blocks (forgive me if i call them by the wrong name)? I have a couple of deadeyes in order from 4mm and 3 mm plus a couple of rigging block of 2.5 mm. Im affraid those will not work for this scale. The eyelets are cheap about 4 GBP and I would pay 40GBP to send it to Brazil. So Im thinking to make a whole package if I would add small light things the transport costs will not change.
  3. I think you mean something like this? http://www.jotika-ltd.com/Fitting_Pics/Lrg/83505.jpg I will try to order this, it is verry difficult to order stuff from outside brazil but they are not that expensive to try. Thanks Lukas
  4. Wow great job from you two on the Superbe. Lukas I like very much what you have done with the canons. Those small o-rings on those canons how did you do that? The hatches for the canons are very nice as well. I will going to read your log very detailed later on and after that im going to shoot of some questions
  5. Thanks Lukas Do you have a log on your kit or maybe some pics for curiousity. For the next couple of days im away I need to work so no progress in the next couple of days. I'll update hopefully soon.
  6. Hi All, Yesterday arrived this nice kit and I thought let make a build log from my progress. I havent seen this kit here on the forum yet so maybe it fun for other to see how much I'll struggle to get this job done. And maybe others will give me some ideas and recommendations. It is my 3rd kit that im going to build and seems pretty difficult. And most probably its going to be more difficult when I will start with the rigging as far as I can see I will have to make some modifications to get that job done. I think I will order a dremel or such thing to drill some holes where needed, but thats for later. In the next couple of days I will start with some primer on the decks and hull and start painting the canons (there are 74). I will try (as I im trying to do with my Revell Bounty kit as well) to make the ship look like its used. The kit the Heller develloped is the Le Glorieux at the time it was still from the French. This ship has been in a war in the Caribean during the time that the French and Spanish tried to conquerer Jamaica. But the English won and took the Le Glorieux in the fleet (so far about the hostory of this ship) He some pictures of the kit: The box The hull The sails, I'm not sure if I will use these. I like to make real sails but this kit is from plastic and I dont know if the masts can handle the weight of real sails. I printed some drawings in A1 format for a nice reference Well I hope everybody will enjoy following this log. I will try to show the first progress soon. Grtz Ray
  7. Cool! Thanks a lot. I decided to try it another time and make it look a little better. So here a picture of my second attempt I think this looks a little better. Grtz Ray p.s. Thos macro pictures shows very nice how good I can paint LOL. With the real eye it looked a little better
  8. jbshan Thanks i will have a search on Amazon for the Kindle version so I can study it during trips Grtz Ray
  9. Im not sure yet if I will leave this but this was my first atempt I think the size of rope is not to scale but the kit come only with this size and the same size with a other color. So maybe I will change this when some ordered stuff will arrive.
  10. Hamilton Thanks for answering Good point regarding when to start with this because making this splice (i actually dont know how to do this) would not work anymore because I have other stuff on the bowsprit heheheh rookie mistake i guess. but here a screenshot on how to do it, i think i was to fast with asking this on the forum. p.s. I dont know if im allowed to post this because its a screenshot from a book. If this is illigal I will delete it straight away. Grtz Ray
  11. Ok well I kept further searching and just found another great book regarding rigging. The Rigging of Ships in the Days of the Spritsail Topmast (Dover Maritime) This books seems very helpfull I bought the Kindle version and it got some nice pics on how to do this job. Nevertheless when others have some tips feel free to response. Grtz Ray
  12. Does anybody have some nice pictures on how to apply do the gammoning of the bowsprit. I have two books on rigging but I cant find a good picture on how to start and end with this. I hope someone has some experience with this and like to share it with me. Thanks in advance Grtz Ray
  13. Well after long long long time thinking I decided not to make my throuds and ratlines by myself. Im really affraid that I will destroy everything. I have ordered the Le Glorieux from Heller which will arrive soon. This is going to be my next project and with that kit I appearantly need to make them myself. So i thik that would be a better start. I think this next kit will be a very difficult one for me but thats cool I really look forward to start with it. I think I will make a build log on that ship as I cant find any information on that kit here on the forum so maybe its cool for others to see this kit here on the forum. Anyhow thanks a lot for the help I got a lot information in this thread Grtz Ray
  14. Hey guys thank you all for the responses. I think ilI search for colors like i think it would be ok and realistic. Im building it only for myself so if I like it it should be good
  15. Hi Folks, Simple question how do you find the right paints for your kit. Im thinking to buy soon a new kit and i saw a very gool galleon from Heller although i can buy the kit here but i cant find the paint from hHeller here in Brazil. I have tried the following link http://scalemodeldb.com/paint This looks awesome but it doesnt give me all the right colors so I was wondering how do you guys decide what kind of color from which brand to use? Grtz Ray
  16. Hey Popeye2sea again thanks a lot. I ordered some stuff from syren model ship company. The Bounty had a tonnage 400 Tons so I ordered 0.63mm and 0.20mm this is not exactly the right stuff but as we spoke about it is my first time lets try it to do first i think. Later I can be a more perfectionist everything on its time i think, I ordered as well 3 and 4 mm deadeyes and 3 mm hooks and 2.5mm rigging blocks. Maybe some things a a bit out of scale I know. I'll see how it goes in the worst case Ill have to save it for a future project. Thanks again for all your help. I hope to see soon some pictures of your work and offcourse when I'll start with this job I will post some pics. Grtz Ray
  17. So comming back on the ratlines and shrouds im thinking the following For the throuds i think i will order 0.63 and for the lower ratlines 0.30 and upper 0.20 (all in mm im from europe originally ) I will order this and some deadeyes from Chucks company as you mentioned. The material from Dafi's is for the Victory i beleive so im not really sure if this would do the job for my Bounty
  18. Hi MTaylor, Yes there are drawings in 1:96 and a list of dimensions but nothing mentioned about the deadeyes or thickness of lines like throuds or ratlines. I was actualy thincking to rescale the drawings i have just by measuring and calculate to 1:110 (which is the scale of my kit) and use the sizes of ratlines and shrouds as mentioned in the Victory thread. At chucks company I found some nice deadeyes at 2 and 3 mm which seems like a good size if I measure the mast and take the half as Popeye2sea mentioned 3mm seems to be the half size. Now the next adventure would be find some chain and find a way to fix. Im sorry for all those rookie questions. Maybe what I want to do is a bit to difficult for a rookie but I like it to try to make it beautifull. But everybody thanks for the patience and help this keeps me going on.
  19. Popeye2sea Thanks again for your answer. I tried to find some of the reference material and some I could find as ebook. Plus I measured the mast of my mast and a deadeye of 3mm and a smaller one from 2mm should do the job. Regarding the sizes of line I got 2 packages in my kit one green and one black but both with the same size. so for the shrouds and ratlines i thik they are useless. So I was thinking to buy some. But in my pdf on the anatomy of the bounty i cant find any reference regarding sizes of rope or deadeyes. For that I will try to makae some more searches and start reading the books I bought from Amazon about rigging, hopefully I can find something. Do you know if one can order pre-made chains?
  20. I can see this part is very difficult and your answer makes me even more affraid t start with it. But i think it is an important part that makes a ship looks even more finished. I think also if you never try it you will never learn it. On the ither hand it would be cool to finish my first sailing boat before i destroy one. Im not ready to start with the shrouds yet i havent finished the deck even. But i thought lets start gather a some information before i start with it. Im also not in a hurry to finsih this kit (it doesnt sial away by itself ). All informationis welcome and i will study. Even if I descide not to do it on this project I will do in with a future project because again I think it make a ship complete
  21. Hello all, Well I'm seriously thinking to make my own shrouds and ratlines because the own from my kit dont look so very nice and i think it would be a cool experience to do it for myself. Some very friendly people here on the forum have given me allready some links to start out with it. And offcourse I search on google for more details on the ship im building at the moment (HMS Bounty 1:110 by Revell). Now the funny thing how shall I start and what shall I cut away, drill or glue hahaha. This is my second kit and my first sailing boat. So im really overwhelmed and maybe I make it too difficult for my first sailing boat....who knows. Well I found some info in the book Anatomy of the ship HMS Bounty on how the shrouds are fixed So this is what I should try to accomplish with with the scale in mind offcourse And this is what I have: Im thinking to leave the Forechannel, Chain and external planking as it is. Than maybe I could find away to connect the chain deadeye and lanyard to this piece. I have found also the shop syrenshipmodelcompany where I could buy some stuff to try to make this. I was thinking to buy a bunch of 3mm deadeyes. But what kind of size rope for the Shrouds and ratlines is a big question for me. So I share this whole story in the hope someone has some tips and maybe someone could tell me what size os rope would be good for the shrouds and ratlines. Maybe there are also people who think has done this on the Revell kit and can talk from experience how theye have done it. Grtz Ray
  22. thanks guys, im so happy i found this forum everybody is very helpfull and i really learn a lot!!!
  23. Thanks Canute I appreciate your comment. I think for now i keep it like this and will try to start with the deck of the ship this have some releif of planks on the deck ( barely vissible though). Lets see how this goes
  24. hi Gents, Back again today i like to share my attampt to apply a wash on a small boat for my Bounty kit. The original should be white but i thought lets try to this technique its the first time ever ive done this and I havent put a matt finish on it yet because I'd like to know others thoughts about this. There is not much relief on the boat so im in doubt if I should try some dry brush technique as well or maybe others have better ideas. I used first a email paint matt brown with a little bit matt white than a gloss finish and loet it dry. After that i took some water paint and brush it onthe boat and let it dry a bit. Than I diped with a wet cloth to smooth it out. Please let me know your thoughts I would be happy to hear what others think about this. Grtz Ray
