  1. Thanks everybody for all the responses I got a lot of good info from all you guys. Grtz Ray
  2. I downloaded the instructions on the Glad Tidings although this boat is a little less appealing I think I really would enjoying building this kit. And I would learn a lot and it seems complicated enough to me. I can imagine now how overwhelmed I woul be if I purchase the kit I mentioned. So Ithink the Glad Tidings is a good suggestion to start and see how far I come. Thanks for the advises it is much appreciated!!!
  3. I will do a search on that ship thanks Alde
  4. I get your point and will search for a other one. I saw the Syren from model shipways. About this kit is a lot info here on the forumand the rest of the WWW. But it has two masts.
  5. Thanks guys, so maybe I should search fore a more easy one although I like the rigging work on my previous model but Ill keep that in mind. Suggestions for a nice kit from the period time are welcome. And Mark is right yes this forum is our biggest tool. i wasnt planning to cut my beard either lol
  6. Markjay, Thanks for your comment too, but razor blades I dont get hahaha. Would you explain that to me?
  7. so a kit like i posted would be possible with some viles, rasps, wood glue, clamps, nails etc? How does a kit look like when you open the box. Parts are pre sawed (this looks to me like weird english sorry)? And paint could I use my Model Masters Acrylic paints without a problem?
  8. Hi Forum members, At the moment im making plastic period kits and enjoy it a lot. But I would realy like to make wooden kits I love period ships. But I dont have more expierence with wood as the little I did when I went to high school some 20 years ago. I dont have such fancy tools as i see passing by here on the forum. What would be needed to make a kit like in the link below? http://www.shipwrightshop.com/shop/contents/en-uk/p14.html Would i need a huge arsenal of specific tools and knowledge on wood working? It is marked as an serious starter kit. I have all time because my current build is not even close to be finished but soon Ill be in the Netherlands and can order this easy and more cheap as in Brazil so I thought maybe to buy this kit. If it would be possible for me to make. So maybe some people here have some advise to start with the wooden kits. Thanks in advance Grtz Ray
  9. What a wonderfull job! I was thinking maybe I will do a wooden kit as next project but when i see this kind of work and the amount of tools im not sure if i will do that. It looks so difficult but again very very nice. Grtz Ray
  10. Great thread some nice recommendations here I just ordered 2 of them. 18th century rigs and rigging historic ship models I hope those will help me with my Le Glorieux when starting with rigging. Anyhow it is pretty fun stuff to read so i think i will going to enjoy them.
  11. Great explanation on how to make the lower deadeyes. I saw mostly lower deadeyes with hooks but I think the French did it different (im not sure about that) so I was looking on how to make them with rings. Wonderfull!
  12. Ahhh thats the name.........I told my wife I ordered as well a cissor which I could use to cut around the corner LOL.
  13. That Soleil looks wonderfull too! Is that also a plastic kit? Grtz Ray
  14. I ordered a set like this from micromark.com. But I have to be honest the comment from Ulises Victoria is a very good one and much cheaper. Grtz Ray
  15. Hi Robbe33 Maybe this site will help you. You can even upload a picture and it tells you which color from whcih brand you could use you can also filter on brand. http://scalemodeldb.com/paint I have used Revell enamel but I started now to use MM Acryll I think this is very good paint indeed. Good luck all the best Ray
  16. Interesting to add to this thread when doing a wash with oil paint. I saw on Youtube a vid where someone put the oil paint on a cardboard for a while 30min or so. All the oils will be absorbd by the cardboard and you are with almost only pigment. THis makes the oil paint dry faster. Maybe a usefull tip I havent tried it yet but I will try it when starting to paint my deck. Grtz Ray
  17. Well Im off for work again for some weeks most probably so no progress soon . But that gives me at least some time to think about the priming and glueing the hull and drilling holes for the eyelets of the canons.
  18. Hey all, This is a tiny update, I just came back from work and be home for a couple of days. I started today with the hull and take a good look on all the excessive plastic that need to be scrapped away. After I did a dry fit and I found out i got some little point left to do. After that time for cleaning and spray some primer. I will use white primer from Revell because I decided to paint the hull with enamel from Revel. Im just not sure yet if I would do first the primer and than glue the two hull parts together or glue them first and apply the prime afterwards. Hopefully in a couple of days a bit more results Grtz Ray
  19. Hi Folks, I was thinking when I have painted the hull of my kit in copper and apply a matt finish I could weathering it with Humbrol Chrome oxide. This has a greenish color. I could even use a little yellow the sand weathering power to soften the green a little. I would like to experiment a little with those weathering powders now I got them at home waiting for me. Anybody has some thoughts about that? http://www.humbrol.com/us-en/shop/weathering/weathering-powders.html Grtz Ray
  20. When I try to login it tells me I have the wrong password or user name although im very sure I have them correct. Im confused hehehe. And I really think I need help on this and the other forum because money to buy those books from mr Boudriot I dont have. I was shocked when I saw the prices of these books.
  21. What a wonderfull work B E, I have read this thread now 3 times trying to absorb all the tips you have given. Soon I will start with my Le Glorieux and hope mine will be a 10th of what you have accomplished here. I would be very happy. I tried to enter you log on the link you gave previous but even though i registerd it doesnt seem to work unfortunately. Grtz Ray
  22. I understand you mtaylor except OOB? What does that mean? Yes I should experiment a little to see how it goes, good point! Thanks a lot
  23. I dont want to sound like a stubborn guy but im thinking about this a little bit and as by myself. Would a brass wire with a diameter of 0.3 mm be riggid enough to make those eyebolts im wondering and than dont forget the diameter should be 0.7mm. I have a feeling this would be like a hair. Than when this would be possible it needs to be set on the boat. Im thinking it would be very fragile and those sets as mentioned before would be easier to handle. Im not saying its not possible but im a bit sceptic to be honest
