I'm debating lightly weathering DD227 with either pigment or washes to bring out details. Nuln oil has wreaked havoc on one deck gun. Any sugggestions on something more workable? 🙃

PM me your email. Unless, of course, you think it worth me posting a reference photo thread. I have quite a bit on DD139!

Which Clemson do you plan on modeling? I have a ton of unpublished photos.

Today added her bell... and an odd piece of equipment I have struggled to find decent reference pics for - her 4 inch .50 caliber practice loading machine.

I'm hoping to upgrade the motorboats on my model. Does any have a source in 1/96 for a 24 foot motor launch such as the one pictured? Thanks to the incredibly generous rcweir, I have the rest covered.

Here's the frontline trace on DD-227. I'm modeling her circa 1939. Lots of scratchbuilding, including her rangekeeper, most of her bridge, galley roof equipment, boarding ladder, etc. About 90% of the way there!

That's some really beautiful work! Well done indeed. I think I hit upon a workable solution with Tamiya masking tape and spliced together railings.

They are PE... unfortunately they aren't even close to the 1930s configuration

I've run into another minor issue. Prewar Clemsons had a rather unique railing setup on top of their bridge. I've attached two reference pics as opposed to trying to describe it. These railings were covered by canvas and painted grey to match the hull. Any ideas on how to replicate this? The Bluejacket kit railings are two bar.

Exactly. It looks like the higher boot topping was just about universal by the 1920s.

For what it's worth, I loathe scratchbuilding. Does anyone have a source for 1/96 or even 1/72 Lewis guns and watercooled .50 cals?

Latest update on the bridge. The more I study photos of the Asiatic Fleet DDs, the more modifications I'm realizing the Bluejacket kit needs.
