Giving it some thought fitting the hand rail first would mean you get the advantage of fitting each upright one at a time fine tuning as required

I've put some thought into it I'm not impressed with the kit recommendations the handrail doesn't meet it just butts against the keel leaving an ugly space between
I think I will recess the two handrails in so they meet also I don't like how the uprights prutred the hand rails the kit calls for 3mm x 3mm ill will use 3mm x 2mm

I think I will fit the three by two uprights first then try the modified handrail using the ply wood originals and see how that works
I'll post pics tomo night with how it turns out

    Thanks Steve,
    Good description, thank you.
I use the Line covered in CA, about 20mm, and before the CA dries, I wipe with the "Digits."
If the line isn't stiff enough, do it again until it is.

You have then got a nice rigid thread you can push through all manner of tiny holes. (Blocks/Deadeyes/Rings)
Once through the hole in question, grab the end with Tweezers, Hooks, whatever.

Have a go on something "Off Ship" first.

If the "Bodkin"  gets brittle, (As it does after a few holes), repeat the CA and your good to go!!

Unsure of where I got the tip but use this method exclusively, much easier than a needle threading device when the Rigging gets "Busy."

    Cheers....HOF.

    Yup, Thanks Steve,
All Power Tools deserve that respect.
After my first few goes with the Small Proxxon, I managed to cut into the end of my right Index Finger, believe me, it cut really quickly!!
The Kerf is very fine, so compression and a week of Band Aids, all good.
(I now use "Push Sticks" whenever possible.)

I too have the Full sized machinery for Cabinet work, Etc. (I want to keep my Fingers firmly attached thank you. )

    Cheers....HOF.

    Thanks Steve,

I'm slowly fixing the mistakes I've made so far and looking forward to making some forward progress. You've set the bar higher than I'll be aiming for this build but you're giving lots of ideas to think about.

P.S. I hope you're getting a commission from Proxxon - I just ordered their little saw.  You did guarantee that it would improve my results!

Krabby (my new name for the boat) and I have been negotiating the planking plan.  The planking batten was placed and the 1st couple of strakes have been mounted.

I think the benefit of having multiple builds in progress is now clear to me: while Krabby's planks are setting, I can paint the pinrails on the little Bluenose II  and cut out the bulkwarks on the bigger Bluenose II.  Hmmm, maybe its time to start another build.

For the hatches in front of the wheel house the kit instructions where to glue up a rectangle from planks then scribe lines out to form the three different lids
the following is how I decided to approach this instead.
I made two one with all hardwood and one with contrasting woods keeping with my theme I think I like the mixed one better

    Hi Chap,
The Blade does retract into the Table and also tilts.
The Blades have about a 1.5mm Kerf but there is the option of the "Super Fine" 0.5 mm Kerf.

(Not used in Anger yet. )

Looking very nice, B. You can get clamp marks out easily by getting a piece of tissue paper, soaking lightly with a few drops of water and then clamp it over the errant mark. Hold it in place with a clothes peg over-night, and the clamp marks should disappear.

I have gone with the softwood on the top and hardwood for door and runners I think this gives a bit more contrasting wood effect and lets the viewer see how the door operates

:piratebo5:hello all just a quick update
this week I have scratch built the required handrails and started to plank the inner bulwarks
I have also added some more detail to the wheelhouse and built  the engine room cover
regarding the engine room cover I tried several times to make the small ring that slides over the exaust pipe with no success that I was happy with I decided to go with the plywood kit provided piece and paint it black I haven't decided to use it or not yet ,it isn't hiding anything so is not required however I think a bit of colour added here and there adds a bit of flavour to the unpainted version and finely tried my hand at a bit of fine detail painting with the winch ,at the minute its a john deer winch but may change to a ford

So today marked the one year anniversary of building La Couronne. Spent time rigging blocks to the fore top mast to roll over my 710th hour. Wow! Time sure can fly when you are having fun! Plus it makes the Admiral happy to see that large financial investment stretch out as long as it does and keep me happily occupied. Money well spent she has told me. I just happen to send her links to many of our fine sponsors with my wish lists as my birthday is next month....

So here are a couple of pictures of her to celebrate. The first is the very first stage in her build and the second is how she looks today minus the blocks I rigged tonight. I will update pictures of all of that in the next day or two.

    Yup,
Got two Proxxon Saws, one tiny one, like yourself and the larger table Saw. Have not used this yet but looks promising when I have the need.
(It's hard to get Proxxon anything here, have to talk to a supplier in Australia.)
