  1. @GregoryThanks, that is exactly what I did, locked the credit card.
  2. I purchased a kit from what I thought was the Artisania Latina website. I now see that the url is https://artesanlalatlna.com/. The site looks legit but now I’m worried.
  3. I see that AL’s latest incarnation of this kit suggests painting the hull. My current situation is: I am building a kit from the 1980s that was barely started and then stored in an attic for years. I picked it up on Marketplace and have completed the hull. I then hit the hull and deck with “natural “ Minwax oil based stain. Due to age, the wood pieces are very dry and the hull planking is very non-uniform from plank to plank (very stripey). How do I proceed to prep the hull for painting in its current state. Do I need to stick with oil paint? Pete
  4. Thank you. Looking for any examples of this kit being painted and weathered as opposed to using the natural wood look.
  5. In the side view, is the waterline (for painting purposes) the heavy line that runs parallel to the keel? Does it seem kind of high up the hull? Pete
  6. I just picked up the Model Shipways Longboat kit from a yard sale. Kit was opened and laser cut pieces were cut from the sheets. After doing some research, everything does seem to be there. Now my question for anyone who is familiar with this kit. There are 2 pieces for the keel and 2 pieces for the stem and rudder. Do these pieces get sandwiched/glued together? I see no mention of this in the instructions. Pete
  7. My attempt at a ship's wheel for the flying bridge. Made with an O-ring, some straight pins and some beads for the handles. It's 3' in diameter from tip of handle to tip of opposite handle at 1:48th scale. My old hands don't have the dexterity to go much smaller.
  8. Alan, It looks like issue 16 is not available to non-members yet. I will keep an eye out. Thanks Pete
  9. My next step will be figuring out how to create the ship wheels from scratch at 1/48th scale. Any suggestions?
  10. @FlyingFish…and there would also be a wheel in the “wheelhouse”? BTW - the detail on the Orca is absolutely amazing.
  11. My next question regards the structure(?) on the wheelhouse roof.as shown below: These plans are based upon a fictional lobster boat from the comic strip "Non Sequitur" by Wiley Miller. In the images below there is a shop's wheel up there. Is this correct or is it artistic license? (I hope I'm not breaking any copyright rules here)
  12. Thanks for looking. I will have some questions regarding how to proceed in my next post. Pete
  13. First I want to thank Chris Coyle for his help in moving my previous posts in the "Ship Plans & Project Discussions" forum to this build log. Below are the photos of my progress thus far.
  14. Thank you so much. Saved me a lot of work. Pete
  15. ...and I would like to rename the post
  16. I want to convert my post "Fishing Boat kit from German company" to a build log under scratch-built
  17. Can I move or copy a thread (that I started) from one forum to another?
  18. Progress over the weekend. Bulkheads/Framing in place.
  19. Thanks Bob. Odd thing is I took and uploaded the previous images using the iPhone. I’ll convert them to jpg after dinner and reupload
  20. Did I upload too many images to show in the post?
  21. Progress over the weekend - bulkheads/framing in place. Probably time to move to a real build log. Pete IMG_0079.heic IMG_0080.heic IMG_0081.heic IMG_0082.heic IMG_0084.heic IMG_0087.heic
