  1. Grant, Looks great, it is going to be a showpiece, did you clean the carpet before your wife caught you or were you keelhauled? John
  2. Chuck, Again thank you for your advice, I appreciate your input, you obviously having a wealth of knowledge in the construction of ships since you are a scratch builder. I doubt I will attain the experience to rise above the model kit. That being said I have a plan and purpose for the way I ordered the wood, and what it will be used for. Thanks for your input, again any advice is appreciated. John
  3. Chuck, Most will be for the Victory, I have another project where I need strips 5" to 5 I/16 it seemed easier to me to get the 30's and do the final cut. I would have less waste and would not have to pay extra for a special order. Should have explained that in my original post, so not to confuse anyone or cause any discombobulation. Thank you for your comment any advice is appreciated. John
  4. I did contact Jeff and he did respond right away, and the feeling I got is that he is a very reputable dealer, but for my needs I needed a length over the 24", he said he could provide more strips to make up the difference, but I needed a specific length. His prices were good and I would have no problem from ordering from him in the future. Thanks any advice to assist in navigating reputable businesses and suppliers is appreciated. There are enough people that promise everthing then like the song "take the money and run". John
  5. Recently needed to order some extra lime wood for my HMS Victory Mamoli 1/90. Most suppliers would not cut to a specific length, or charged extra or shipping was to expensive. Searched this site for suppliers contacted some but was disenchanted for 1 reson or the other. Found a Wayne Cantin located in South Carolina, he responded quickly, custom cutting no problem from 24" to 48" price & shipping was excellent. Can contact him at tallships3@aol.com He may have been mentioned as a supplier in one of the MSP forums but did not see him during my search. John Allen
  6. Thanks, should have learned my lesson on Itialian plans for the armed launch, and reviewed HMS plans more thouroughly. Mind got stuck on grenades, which states clearly in the instructions grenades/cannonballs. All can be corrected will proceed with more caution. Thanks John
  7. Need advice, when coming to the placing of the grenades in lower deck all I found looked more like cannon balls. Found some plastic beads 11/0 at a Wal-Mart but need some honest opinions, I have no ego so if more experienced modelers say it does not look right I will tear it out and redo before I proceed further. They were to shiny and I brushed with a flat clear acrylic. Also researched plank bending tools on this site. I had used a soldering iron on my armed launch and found it tedious but did not want to spend thr money for commercial plank benders. I cannot remeber the builders name but he used a tin can and tea candles. I tried it this date and was amazed. Bent 6 planks in less then 2 or 3 minutes. Tried wet and dry wood, wet seems to be faster. To the point of lying in the gunports and start to plank, had stained decks which need 1 more sanding.
  8. Anja, Excellent advice, would never have crossed my mind which diminishes as I get older. Thanks for the heads up. John
  9. Would be happy to but give me some time, will have to reduce plans instructions no problem. Can start to send by Sat or Sun. Send me an e-mail ancientmarinerjp@aol.com John
  10. Have started log pics attached thanks to all for help so far big kudos to Grant Dale. Am starting to place gunports, will follow advice and ignore factory slots, problem with planking I used a soldering iron when bending palnks for the armed launch was tedius and time consuming need advice on what is the best and most efficient plank bender on the market. The wood supplied for the bottom (copper) is green, my personal choice is a light copper wash instaed of bright copper or the dark green has any body tried that and what were the results. Pics attached of build so far and the 2 previous, armed launch, and cutter diligence that is temporily mounted on an ugly l bracket to keep cats from rigging until I can get another piece of cypress. Am still finding my way around the site, apologize if I have any foo pahs in this post. John Allen
  11. Thanks to all will be posting build log. Have only 2 bulds prior to this Diligence, and armed launch both wood
  12. Bob, Thanks for the reply finally makes sense. born in Wareham mass and raised in Groton.
  13. My momma told me no question is stupid, here we go. Have completed plan #1 & #2 on mamoli's victory had a minor error on the stern gallery and had to redo all went well. Question starting plan #3 start of planking: it calls for #83 & 84 lime MEAS 1,5X5 the 1X5 is width and thickness the other 5 is confusing can someone explain to a mentally defecient modeler as my self the 2nd 5. Thanks
  14. Grant, Perused your build, per earlier conversation I agree the launch makes it right will attempt a scratch build when the time comes, if I can keep cats out of the rigging. Question? the plating for the hull bottom in the kit I have may have been copper at one time but has turned green or was originally green. Do you know or have seen a build where the plating was kept green which would be a natural state for a ship at sea for a time. Am contemplating leaving it green or putting a light copper wash over it. Thanks John
