  1. Random question, Anyone have a Amati Hannah kit lying around on their 'to do' list that is never going to get done, if so I'll happily take it off your hands!
  2. pics attached, what are your thoughts? even added the spinaker pole too! last thing is probably to print off a union jack flag and pin on !
  3. after this the sails, they came preprinted which at first I did not like, so decided to sew over all teh lines in white which helped. I then dipped in 50:50 white glue and water, and left to dry, this created a great effect on the canvas and made the sails look quite real, as it 'ruffled' the fabric. I also applied 2mm strips of fabric to all edges with CA glue (both sides of sail) this took ages but was well worth it, they look great now;
  4. after this I applied all my deck furniture which I had made prior, whilst waiting for the hull paint to dry, shoved in the mast, and she was nearly done.
  5. after a few coats I had a mirror shine, removed the tape and the matt of the deck looked great. also while I remember I actually oiled the hull with Tung oil prior so this may have had something to do with it, but was worth it as has brought out the walnut a treat,
  6. ok so then on to varnish, and what a nightmare, I applied humbrol gloss and it was useless, it frosted and teh whoel hull went a frosted white!!!! i tried polishing it out, but to no avail.... later that day I was in Aldi of all places, and saw they had a can of gloss varnish on sale for £2.99 and thought I'll try it, turns out its brilliant, saprayed over the humbrol varnish and magically all frosting dissapeared, I think its something to do with humidity, but any way DONT USE HUMBROL GLOSS VARNISH its useless!
  7. Hi LMDAVE, apologies for being a bit annoying, but I think you've missed a few bits (unless you meant to!) firstly at the bow of the boat there is a couple of pieces of 1mm x 1mm wood strip right at the front of the boat edge (See Figure 63 in instructions) also if you check Table 2 of the deck plan and look to the starboard bow side, you will see a long 'pole' this is also show on the same page in its own diagram box and is called 'Tangone' (Part No. 105) it some form of tapered 2mm x 150mm pole that is mounted on deck, you'll see they are mounted in the remaining little brass supports from the kit. No idea what it is? or what it represents but thought I'd worth mentioning
  8. and then finally added the water lines and sprayed blue after I coated on some filler and sanded oads with wet and dry, final finish is really nice, near mirror finish, last thing to do is spray the hull with some humbrol gloss varnich, then I can remove the deck tape. Can confirm the yellow frog tape is superb, no leakage at all of paint, just brilliant stuff.
  9. masked off and sprayed undercoat, whilst that was curing, blocks, lots of blocks. dull but once you get in a groove not so bad, made 31, which I think will do?
  10. Also what grade or thickness of brass wire did you use for your blocks? 0.5mm. 0.7mm. Or 1mm?
  11. Anyone have a leu about blocks? I see LMDAVE used some brass wire, It looks as though this is not in the kit provided, neither is any seizing thread, Any thoughts here on whether I should get some brass wire or some thread. I'm guessing using wire is going to be much easier?
  12. LMDAVE I'm up to point /figure 66. On the instructions And it says a block (7) will be applied to these eye bolts And then magically shows the blocks attached to the provided rope. I'm guessing the kit does not include any brass wire to make the little block hoops? What did you use? It's seems weird this is not included in the kit as everything else is!?
  13. Glad you are enjoying! was going to sort the waterline, but damn Bake-off got in the way, looking to sort all paint this weekend.
  14. right, more deck furniture, I copied LMDAVE's lead and clad my Binnacle with spare walnut, as opposed to painting it brown as teh instruction suggest. Didn't have any green/red paint for port starboard, so raided the missus's nail varnish collection - a great alternative! Instrcutions suggest painting the ridiculusly fiddly winch black, which I'm not to sure about, thoughts people? I just need to re/sand /re/angle the control unit, so the dials are more on an angle but otherwise most the deck equipment is done, then finally painting I have masked teh deck with delicate FROG tape, which has some special edge glue to the tape to make a crisp edge, will report back on its effectiveness!
  15. HI LMDAVE, looking good, quick question, are you going to paint your winch black? it says so in the instructions but it does seem a bit weird? Also why does it suggest painting the cleats brown? I'm no expert but wouldn;t these be brass/metal of some form? also nice work on the ships wheel, like your extra brown coat, better that than the rather odd, silver colour is comes in!
  16. gotcha, I suppose that would make for a slippery deck! and yes the deck furniture is super fiddly, I didn't even think about putting the acetate on first just soldiered on, was very very tricky but just managed it. to be honest, once the brass window covers go on, you can't really see the stuff anyway so its not really a big deal. Finished the winch thing, very fiddly with teh little brass handles, liked LMDAVE's compass block wood surround, might have to copy that one!
  17. next steps are to mask the hull, prime it and paint half blue and leave half pure walnut, with a gloss polycoat, also, will probably paint the deck a gloss too? thoughts on this? looking to get me some Frog tape to stop and nasty bleed, and have maanged to get some 0.5mm trimline for the waterline, wondering if I use this as a 'mask' or instead just actually use this teh line itself and just varnish over the top??
  18. fiddly little chaps, with acrylic windows too! went with a walnut wash so it matches the hull, was going to paint the'seting area' red or aomething to make it look like cushions, but actually, might just leave it wood, thoughts??
