  1. After being frustrated with not being able to glue the rudder and hardware I decided to do the brass nails that came with the kit.  I drilled first worried that the wood would end up splitting, but I’m not sure I had anything to worry about.  They came out not too bad!  I give it a 6/10!F525163E-0632-4AC9-8092-0D73247C4329.thumb.jpeg.2b300c34914bbd126134a82c5178f480.jpeg72B20013-2A66-4CC7-9142-FDFDDAC67038.thumb.jpeg.83bf36cd0d574387ec71c164c57007ce.jpegA7F08B98-F876-402E-B1FC-AFE50749E900.thumb.jpeg.07fe2ba7e092150de38d225b8c7315d1.jpegD441316F-B6C1-48CB-9F6C-13207CC7E09E.thumb.jpeg.95e6b0fbee889b46c9c5dcf5f86c2263.jpeg52020E2C-6536-4439-A70B-2629ADCD14C9.thumb.jpeg.df7d4d6cffe660aa13ccdf5968881c51.jpeg

  2. And that is where I am at today.  I created this in hopes that new hobbyist take a look and realize that mistakes can be made, and almost always covered up.  I know I will get better with each and every kit I do.  I also need to learn to slow down.

  3. I really like the dewalt clamps and started with 1 bought 2 more.  I’ve also purchased flat billed alligator clips which I think will be nice in the future.

I ended up with these stupid little splitter on the bottom of the boat which the instructions showed...silly.

the bow of the boat is not pretty....

I am glad I read through all of logs first because it did help quite a bit...again I followed the directions and realize now it would have been easier to wait on the decking. I used the nails as spacers but I realize now that per scale that would probably allow your ankle to fall through.0632014E-4803-495A-B35F-6719554198AC.thumb.jpeg.2a3ca60695660e3cc9e20dbf31843dc7.jpegDFCC5B92-F784-4D8B-BC03-125FA40A038D.thumb.jpeg.dc2a0c539ef5c967b3962856e44733d7.jpeg395A0812-2FAA-40DA-9C15-F2AB39FA8F7C.thumb.jpeg.4ad2732a94853bf63778bff2193671f9.jpeg0E0B8C66-D954-4AB3-B37B-E19D9E250F1E.thumb.jpeg.4551f296aafdf260867bbc78d78441bf.jpeg

  5. I installed the main frame (I’m learning the proper terms as I go) and stained here and there as I saw fit.  I was/am hoping to stain or use a natural finish on the hull.

So I stained some pieces and after reading many logs regarding this boat I decided to plank by the instructions rather than the other build logs...it might have been a mistake but I wanted to do it out of the box as any beginner would.  What I did realize later, was that the pie slice planks that were in the laser cut pieces were thicker than the planking wood supplied.  I think all kits assume some previous knowledge or experience.

  6. This is my first build log and first time planking.  After purchasing a few kits and not wanting to screw them up, I researched and researched and came up with this inexpensive kit that seemed promising.  But I think I was wrong however I realize there is no real beginner kits out there...and I’ve realized you can not compare yourself to the talent out there or you will never finish a kit.  So here goes...B9B46FEE-8E86-4CE0-A5B4-EFB303B707CB.thumb.jpeg.66f415a1dcf0bc12e7239e8d27707652.jpegC2D555FA-358B-45B1-A6B0-B2F0828099B9.thumb.jpeg.48571d838ad39e18c77a2760f368eb9f.jpeg

  7. I joined after I had already completed the dory,  however I believe I was nervous in creating a build log for the others I started in fears of adding to the already abandoned logs.  That and there are quite a few AL bounty jolly logs already completed (and very well done).  But as a newbie maybe it’s nice to see someone with less skill do some kits...I have about 10-12 still unopened.  I’m really hoping I stick with this hobby!

  8. This question would be for moderators or whoever is in charge...I have about 40 or so pics of blue jackets Grand Banks dory that I completed a few months ago.  It was my first build and it came out respectable (I’m amazed by the talent on this site).  I was curious if it would be ok if I created a build log and posted these pictures to it.  I notice there are no logs for this boat that I could find on the quick index link.  Are build logs reserved for strictly works in progress?  I also have been working on an AL jolly boat that I am almost 60% complete with and a blue jacket revenue cutter that I am about 35% complete with...I’m not sure anyone could learn anything from me except perseverance.
