Thinking of using a fine brass brush to put thin fine lines to reveal the darker brown plastic underneath tan paint for wood grain and do the ends in white and flat brown

I've actually been working on this a couple of weeks now but just started the build log today after I had joined model ship world yesterday. Painted the masts, yards, crows nests and plan on touch ups when I cut them loose to install them. The kit comes with formed plastic sails but I think I won't use them. Either no sails or stored sails made from sheer curtains

Decided to do 1 side of ship as it would look later in life by greening the copper and am still considering other aging steps fo the one side. The other side I will make pristine like the day she launched.
-
Drilled holes in bottom of hull and thru the mounts to attach to the 1×8 oak plank. The square holes are for the masts
-
Glued the 2 halves of the hull together and painted flat black above the waterline, copper below then taped off the water line and painted it white. Painted the inside white

I noticed this model in a local outlet store for about 40 usd and had a 15% coupon thought might as well try a plastic ship

Wow what a fantastic Forum !!! I have seen some great builds looking through some of the logs. I built my first ship when Michigan went on lockdown in April and May. After a couple of weeks staring at the walls thinking I will go mad if I don't find something to do and had always wanted to do a wooden ship and built the Le Renard Artesian Latina. I wish I had known about this sight after seeing all the different modifications and work arounds I read in the build logs. I completed it with a lighted case in just over 2 months. I am currently working on a plastic model of the Sea Witch by Lindberg I found on sale for 40 USD at Ollies surplus store. Its a different animal with detailed painting of small plastic parts

Thanks Steven for the tip on starting a build log.

That doesn't look like the same rigging instructions that I have. My kit came with 2 instruction sets. 1 for building and 1 for rigging. I can try and post close up pics if you want?

Like I said I had lots of time on my hands. I worked on it for an hour or two every couple hours. Being in lock down by myself with nothing else to do. Also I was thinking I would get called back to work and wouldn't finish it.

Hello , great job. I'm new to the site and reading thru your log. I built this same kit around the same time as you during the 2 month lockdown in Michigan!! I wish I would have found this site back then. It would've been fun following and creating the logs. I was lucky to find this kit in my local hobby shop. 2 weeks into the lockdown. They were great running out to their customers in the parking lot delivering what I needed to build the kit.

I did this ship as a first try when I found myself in covid lock down by myself in April. Is this Artesania Latina? It seriously kept me from losing my mind during the 2 month lock down in which I not only finished it, I also built a case. I had a lot of time on my hands lol. I just joined and am looking for ideas for another ship. I will read thru your log and get caught up as to where you are at in your build in case you might have a question. Heres a pic of my ship I named Corona Bound

The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
