Hello, a handsome ship! Love the finish. Is it Tung Oil? Photos offer plenty of inspiration. Thanks for posting.

Thanks, this is one of my first projects, built several years ago. Now see some things that could have been done differently; for example the deadeye lanyards could have been black thread.
Finally cased her during 2020, along with the others. Case design and fabrication was the last major step to understand in my shipbuilding process. My approach to shipbuilding is that it’s more important to get through the project, to understand the steps, rather than agonize over perfection. Perfection comes through building ships. During early projects, much time was spent figuring out how to do each step. Now less time is spent figuring it out, more time to drill into the details. At least that’s idea.

Thanks DelF, appreciate the thought.

Hello, enjoyed looking at your ship! Wondering about the finish, how was it done? And nice photography. What is the backdrop?

Thank you! Spot on, in the background Vintage “yellow box” Modelshipways Katy pilot boat and Maine Topsail Schooner “coaster” Eagle, and Bluejacket Lackawana.
Cases are my own design.
For me it’s a progression, observing others, trying and settling on new techniques, and incorporating them into the next project. Always something new to learn. The best part is someone seeing the work, their expression of surprise, and watching them move closer to see more.
And I am R. B.
Thanks again,
-Rich
