Ah the task has a slight change to it. Time to review the JHA. Write out another take 5 and reveiw the SWMS Haha. Please make sure all shipyard workers sign on!!!  That brings me back to the old FIFO Jobs.
    Little bits at a time.
As the saying goes, For a man to move mountains, he must start by moving pebbles. Good luck.

Nice one! Come to think of it, I still have lots of tanganika strips left over. I used them to plank the deck of the Friesland. 1000mm lengths from Modelers shipyard.
Keep an eye out for that long round cardboard tube!!!

I believe modelers shiyard from NSW have an great range, But as you said. See how the costs weigh up. But also, You only build the ship once.

I believe the art work on the front of this book has been used for other Sovereign builds for accuracy.  So it will be valuable for your build references.

I have brought the exact same sander a couple of months ago. Purely because I have taken on refurbishing the admirals doll house. They are perfect for the tasks we need them for.
All sanded up she looks brilliant. Good job.

Im all in for the changes.  As for the carvings......um.
How are you finding the sergal plans?  I dare not ask about the rigging plans.
Be Interesting to see how the transom pans out. I'm sure it will be fine. Nice job.

That is an epic bow figure! It must be time to head outside for some relaxing sanding.

Barbies with life jackets. Haha. So now I suppose you are underway for the traditional first layer hull closing up party? Drinks and speeches?
The hull is looking great. On every ship i build I write the date started on the keel before closing it up. Just a little tradion of mine. Good work.

Very nice place you have. Is your dog a husky or an Alaskan malamute? Looks like he/she is keeping the kids busy.  I have seen around perth small groups of people gathering to sail these R/C yachts. They are quite fun to watch.

The hull is coming up great. I like this stage in particular as this is the first time yout get to see the body emerging. Good work.

Got to love the cyclone season. I used to be FIFO out of Karratha for a few years and had some interesting cyclone parties. Your ship looks great.  Good start to your planking.

Well not much has been going on as of lately. Just still rigging ratlines and repairs to the stern lanterns that my cat knocked off.
The standing rigging is almost complete. It's taken awhile.

    Thanks Sjors.
    Yes from Deep down under.
You are most correct in saying it's not an easy build. It's like a game of chess, Trying to think 2 steps ahead!
I'm sure I have photos somewhere here of some of my other completed builds. I am hoping to bring this build to a good end and not just an end.
My spare room as it lays now. Some built and completed, Some awaiting construction.

Hey there guys. Sorry no posts for a while. Have had some non-ship related matters to attend to but all is well now. Just been rigging some more deadeyes for the fore mast tops and the deadeyes for the bowsprit shrouds. Will hopefully have up some pics soon.

Well guys. I'm off on holidays tommorrow so won't be any posts of the Friesland for about a week.
But I have Model shipworld on my phone so I'll still be reachable.
    Here is today's progress.
More ratlines on the top of the main mast and more ratlines on the top fore mast.

Thanks Scott, the flat black I've used for the lower wales are almost too black so will need to give it a wash to tone it down to my liking but overall I'm happy with her appearance. The white I'll have to adjust as I painted the white right up to the wale astern and therefore the bows also to match the Serb on the Ley painting, however on the Van de Velde sketch after re checking the white is clearly only up to the waterline so I'll mark out the waterline over the lower wales which will be over painted white and the white on the stern and bows will be covered in black to give the natural straight waterline.

Thanks BV, I have considered that also but displaying one side as you mentioned and the other just full hull - similar to the Greenwich model of the Endeavour, without the cutaway hull obviously haha. I should make a decision soon as the more I build on her topsides the more fragile and susceptible she will be to damage.

Back to the model, more 'iron bolts' added using the forementioned mode train nail heads for the larger bolts and drilled holes with black ebony wood filler for the smaller diameter bolts. So far both hull sides are at the same level of completion with the obvious bolt locations placed but I'm deciding whether to continue and add more bolts and then the treenails. I'm using the 1/10 Vasa model from the Vadamuseet and the Batavia replica as a guide for these and again happy so far.

You'll also notice some more carvings added using a mixture of the sergal fittings which are actually upon closer study reasonably accurate.

I do love the darker colour above the wales. Good work.
