  1. The beginning. Let us hope and pray that I take my time, think everything through, cut safely, Sand carefully, measure two, three, or four times before I cut, always cut outside the line, apply epoxy or resin in small quantities, and clip with pins to hold together. I have also begun trimming the boat's cradle with cushioning (not pictured), and away we go. Take good care friends. John
  2. This Greek Bireme is absolutely beautiful! Mine bombed when I was a newbie. Just did not take my time and with this field time is a must! You proved that it can be constructed. Thank you for sharing!
  3. Thank you so very much Mark!!! I appreciate you, sir. John
  4. Thank you Mark. I wish to ask one other question from you good sir, how may I place my NRG insignia on my MSW page? I wish to do so. Thank you kindly for your assistance and friendship. John
  5. Hi TBlack, living in Boise, Idaho. Love it here, but wish to live nearer to the coast. Love the maritime scene. Hope you are doing well.

  6. Not really sure what to say. Been working with my wife on her first build, a Yankee Tender, 3/4" = 1' - 0". Today we built the strong-back, did pretty well. We took plenty of time to think things through, as my wife is a deep thinker, researcher, no time - constraints so she takes her time analyzing every course of action, and enthusiastic to build a larger vessel with me on our property for recreational use. For 13 years we have contemplated a small-time boat design and building small business. Just to tune her in on what goes into a work as such I felt she should begin with a model. I think she's hooked now guys. Keep an ear out for her, and an eye, she just joined. Thank you for all the kind sentiments from everyone.

  7. MTaylor and Mercator...thank you so much for the welcome. Very pleased to be here, oh, and BTW, Semper Fi brothers. USMC 1971-1972. Spent a short time with 1/6. Mercator, I doubt this month I can make it, but please give me a heads up for September. Having surgery on the old bladder soon. Not certain when, so keeping time open. Would love to attend and get to know you guys. Please keep me informed. Thanks kindly. Mark, you have a horde of builds, my goodness sir but you have been busy. Great for you! I may or may not be ready, but considering a scratch build, as well as an article I am researching for NRG. Trying to discern the build but wish to construct a Rhine Riverboat. Any ideas for a set of plans? Actually, a smaller scale American Riverboat as in Sloop, is more like it. Either will do. Thank you guys!!!
  8. Thanks very much Keith Black for sharing your affirmation. Enjoy your weekend.
  9. A big thank you to all members posting my introductory thread. Thank you all so much! I am from Boise, Idaho. I am searching for a Maritime Society and/or Museum engaged with the maritime vessels and peoples of the Pacific Northwest. I have no builds but am presently beginning a US Coast Guard Lifeboat at 44 ft. LOA. model. This will be my first in many, many years. As a youngster at 12 - 17, I built many, many vessels; even an 18 ft. canoe / kayak combo and began building a 16 ft. day-sailer but volunteered with the USMC at 17 in 1971. I surer wish I would have continued building and designing but fell quite short due to struggles with PTSD and a Spinal Cord Injury. Grateful to be alive, I am pursuing now what I have always dreamed of doing, building wooden ship models.
  10. On the HMS Victory there should be many station lines but as has been mentioned more is better to obtain a degree of accuracy. The lines that merge at the keel is an imperative in that these station lines can follow the same exact path as the previous station line. This is not unusual. I realize I am new here but in reading the lines drawings for my own designs, I have noticed the same fact. It is okay if the Body section lines do this. Half - breadths or (or Full - breadths), are positioned as straight lines from C/L to all the waterlines and Sheer line values. Sound as if you are doing well, but as mentioned prior more in this case can be better to obtain a greater degree of accuracy. I hope this helps. Thank you for allowing me this privilege.
  11. Greetings good people. I hope I am posting correctly. Westlawn graduate in primer program and former wooden model shipbuilder. I am excited to be a part of MSW and NRG. Two great maritime entities to engage with and learn from. From what I recall in design and construction of boats is not only do your mistakes have a way of creating a better creativity but they definitely will humble us. I am not being spiritual or religious but stating a fact many already know. Hope to meet you all and make friends. Many thanks. Nautical 1
