Well, Occre just released the USS Missouri and if you can manage to part with $938 (on the Occre website) it can be all yours!
-
Greetings Fellow Modelers, I was looking throughout the site for some info about the new release from Occre - I didn't see anything so I decided to start a thread. From what I've seen, the October 9th release is touted as "the biggest battleship ever built". From that description, i assumed it was the Japanese battleship Yamato. But further on in Occre's description, they all but tell you the subject is the USS Missouri because of the "historic surrender ceremony" that took place on her decks. The two descriptions don't jibe but that's okay i suppose. Looking forward to this release and hoping the quality is at least as good as their Prinz Eugen offering. If anyone has further info, we'd enjoy hearing it.

Thank you for the change mtaylor

I apologize for messing up the date of the release in the title line. It should read 4-28-2024

Well, here we are again with another Occre release barely 2.5 months since their previous release of the San Felipe. It is the French Frigate La Belle Poule. Built in 1/90 scale and just under 43 inches long. The kit is comprised of 6600+ pieces and it's being offered on Occre's website for $562.99 U.S currency. I haven't seen it being offered on Model Expo's site as of 1:30pm. I believe this ship was best known for transporting Napolean Bonaparte's ashes from Saint Helena back to France

Thank you very much for the finishing tips - very well appreciated!
-
Also, what type of clear coat did you use?
-
Thank you for the detailed steps in the process! Would I purchase the polyester finishing putty at an auto supply store? And other than where noted, are you using the wet/dry paper in a dry state?
-
Hello Cbill, A beautiful model to be sure! What product and method did you use to achieve such a flawless high gloss finish on the hull and topsides?
-
Hello James H, I rather liked this new Occre release bc of the balcony style stern galleries - we don't seem to see this very often these days. But now having seen your Panart work of art, I'm inclined to rescind my approval of Occre's rendition. I think we've officially crossed over into a time that unless we're willing to pay close to or above $1000, the kits that we plebians can afford will be of diminishing quality in both design and materials.
-
Mike Montanese - you were correct! Well done. Model Expo is offering the kit for $499. 99 with a free set of Occre paints and stains as well as free shipping. The model itself is 32.5 inches long
-
It very well could be! It's as good a guess as any. I'm hoping Occre will issue another hint or two before the reveal

I'm wondering of this might be HMS Britannia launched in 1762. She was renamed HMS Princess Royal in 1812. Then remamed HMS St George later in 1812. Then renamed again in 1819 as the HMS Barfleur. She also participated in the battles of Cape Spartel, Genoa, Cape St Vincent and the battle of Trafalgar. I like the way in which Occre presents these new releases - they make you think!

Greetings to all! Has anyone else received an email from Occre announcing their new model ship release on Feb 18? The email claims that it's a "legendary" ship that's been known by many names. I'm quite suprised that Occre would release something new after the high end offering of HMS Victory mere months ago. Occre seems very aggressive in releasing new items to the public which is certainly fine with me. Anyone with an opinion as to what it might be?
-
To each their own I suppose. It appears to me that the European model companies are thinking of themselves as "not complete" unless they offer some version of the Victory. If this type of model interests someone - great! It's not something I would be interested in building bc of the price and the imo odd brass adornments and figurehead among other oddities. Also, I wish they would have offered the kit with the ship as it was when first constructed - with the "balcony style" stern galleries. I am ever hopeful that Occre will come out with a series of more modern sailing craft - specifically the J Class of boats used in the America's Cup back in the 20's and 30's. I would expect we won't be seeing any new offerings from Occre for awhile owing to the fact that they must have dropped a bundle in the planning, tooling and manufacture of this new kit. So, here I sit, working on a Dumas Chris Craft runabout, all the while keeping hope alive.

Thanks very much. I will certainly give it my best attempt! Hoping that mine turns out as richly finished as yours

Hello Cleat! I'm building the same kit at the moment - beginning the side planking. I was impressed with the finish on your project. You mentioned many coats of 50% thinned tru oil. My question is what did you use to thin it with and how did you apply it?

Greetings to all fellow hobbyists! I am new to this forum and relatively new to the hobby. I was looking for a review of Billing Boats building slip #301 and #397. Are they worth the cost or should I simply rely on a good carpenter's square or a set of small lego blocks for true bulkhead/keel unions?
-
It certainly is. My family is from Ontario and I was lucky enough to take a tour of the Hinterhoeller facility in St Catherine's in 1980. I remember being impressed with how "handmade" these boats were. They also produced the Niagara line of sailboats

Hello Bob, I just received my box from Model Expo yesterday containing this kit. ME was having a great sale - $68 INCLUDING shipping. I just read through your entire building experience and will be using it as a real hands on guide in addition to the manual by Mr Antscherl. My congratulations on such a realistic model

Thank you very much. I was thinking about that solution as the only option. I will give it a try. No build logs on MSW for me - not quite at that level yet. Following your progress on the Yankee Hero has helped me immensely. Thanks again and I've enjoyed keeping up with your work on the Revenue Cutter.

Hello Mr Timlen, I'm in the midst of shaping the spars on my Yankee Hero and I've broken the mahogany "jaw" that attaches the end of the boom to the mast twice now. It is so fragile as to be almost unusable. Did you have the same problem and if so, how did you solve it?
