  1. Steven, Thank you for your warm welcome. I appreciate the information that you have provided; it is very helpful. I have chosen the Bluenose - Model Shipways - MS2130. It is intimidating but I feel with the information, guidance, and expertise available, I can build her. I have always been fascinated with sailing ships. Today, I carve the rabbit in the keel. Thank you again for the warm welcome and information. Joe
  2. USS Frank Cable (AS-40) was COMSUBRON 4's support tender. We were on Pier Mike
  3. Thank you Brad. Spent many watches on the "PING"!
  4. Thank you Guy! The USS Sunfish (SSN-649) part of Submarine Squadron 4 in Charleston! I was on the USS SEAHORSE (SSN-669) from 1983 - 1990. I would go back in a heartbeat (at least the mind is willing; the body is another story) Thanks again for the greeting Shipmate!
  5. I have inventoried all parts and, I am anxious to get started. I have separated the three sections of the false keel and am working on the reference lines, bearding lines and rabbits. I have noticed that the bottom of the stern section is 1/32 of an inch lower than the mid-section. I am not sure whether it should be planed or sanded even with the mid-section or left alone. I am nervous about carving the bearing lines and rabbit. I will make sure all my reference lines are correct and begin tomorrow. Joe
  6. Thank you all so much for your warm welcome, and it was my pleasure to serve. I would do it all over again in a heartbeat! If they come out with a geriatric submarine force, I'll be the first to join.
  7. My name is Joe Sexton. I am a retired Navy Senior Chief Petty Officer who spend 22-years on submarines. In 1992, we pulled into Ketchikan, Alaska. The entire town welcomed us with incredible Alaskan hospitality. This was my first introduction to sailing. I was invited to sail with a resident on his Island Packet 38. When the wind filled her sail and she heeled over, I was hooked. I have always been fascinated with sailing ships and the history behind them. Now, I am embarking on building model ships. In my research, I was referred to this forum for information, help, and mentoring. I am excited to start my first wooden model ship and meeting and learning from experience of its members. Thanking you, Joe Sexton, YNCS(SS), USN (Ret).
