    Hurrah it’s Rat Line time. My favourite. Trying a different route this time. Printed lined paper and suitable scrap plank (6mm). Clamp the planks across the shrouds to keep them properly spaced then tie and brush with dilute PVA. Much quicker and seems neater so far.

    Pleased with them Sure it' a very old tip but one of my favourites. Put a drop of liquid CA on the end of the thread to help make things easier getting through blocks.

    You should see when I don’t cheat. Shocking! Fair enough not yet but think of it differently that if you have a kit where the materials are first rate it makes it much easier to continue and finish Thanks for your kind words I’m enjoying this one and think it’s a step ahead of the previous.     Mark 2 of the jig after one shroud. Backing the same but dead eyes attached with pins so they don’t rotate. Makes tying off very quick and easy with regular drops of liquid CA to stop and unravelling. Using round end tweezers each turn to push down onto previous thread to keep things neat. Okay there are only eight here but this is much better than my last effort.

    We have a beach sheltered by the harbour wall that we swim from regularly and on a really good day the seals come to see what we’re doing. Still waiting to spot Orca’s here but there were some a couple of weeks ago, whilst away of course. Being a smaller, newer, company there is less choice but I think the quality makes it worthwhile anyway. Perhaps try one of the fishing boats when you can.     I envy your sailing experience. I've only done very little a long time ago but really enjoyed it. Very happy to live next to the sea though. I'd highly recommend getting a Vanguard Models kit of one size or another. From my research only Vanguard and Syren make lovely kits.

    Appreciate the spot. They're just fed through the chains at the moment and loose clipped to try and stop knocks. With lots of excess .

    Thank you. Quite likely but at the moment they're just held with hair clips to keep them vaguely in place.

    Fair bit of progress today. Got nearly all the blocks and foot ropes on ready to fit the booms and yards later. Quite pleased. A mix of gel and liquid CA to fix knots and ropes. Gel when I need to keep a piece of rope in place while working it and liquid to hold knots. I've decided to leave these off for now and proceed with the shrouds and ratlines. Hopefully their absence will make this a safer process and not make life harder (or much harder) later. Used my monitor on one side and top desk shelf on the other (for each side) to hold the shroud up and out of the way to tie off at the top, make sure that rope is taught up to the top then in contact with nothing else for a drip of liquid CA. Next time I'll try and make some guide of jig for the dead eyes to keep them even as I usually find that difficult.

    Clear as mud. To me that reads you make a building board (as I think you've done) then paste the two drawings onto that so you look down on those drawings from above, effectively.

    Ah gotcha. Can very easily see how that can happen. A great deal of the plans I've seen whilst trying to choose a kit were incredibly poor. Semi acceptable on a cheap kit but lots were far from cheap. I'm sure you'll get there, and if you don't you'll have learnt lots for relatively little money.

    Thanks Micha. Me neither I've only done them once. Got the knot for the ratlines right about half way through? I was thinking without the yards fitted they might survive! This time I've test fitted the mast so I know it'll go in ok once it's got lots of delicate parts attached.

    I'll confess I'm slightly lost (and spoilt by Vanguard plans ). Is it the case this was meant to be built as two halves then joined?

    Thanks Micha. All painted and drying but forgot to take a pic. Next time it'll be all the blocks and bits and pieces. Was wondering if I can fit the booms but not the yards when the mast is fixed to the hull as I think it would make fitting shrouds and ratlines safer?

    Booms & Yards started. Working from the plans using a file and sandpaper. I find it useful to use masking tape to try and keep the tapers on the right place. On the Booms I also use a file to make a slot for the jaw to slide into to try and make somewhat of a mechanical connection between the two. Attached with PVA and held with clamps to go off. On all measure off the plans and use masking tape to try and get the wedges in the same place around the part. In typical Amazon fashion packet of drill bits arrived with four rather than five packs. Also fairly typical when complained they just refunded. Result!

    Main mast prepped and fit checked, not fixed in place. Bowsprit shaped and fitted. Then became apparent that this put it out of line vertically and horizontally. Not horribly so but enough to annoy. Removed and filed so the alignment is good. I'll sand out the file marks next time.

    No. As far as I can see a Three Roll Bender is a pipe bender. An English Wheel is a sheet metalwork tool typically used to make panels, often automotive. It is used, by very skilled craftsmen (I can't emphasise how skilled) by eye and hand to stretch flat metal in different directions to make complex curves. English Wheel

    Not certain as where I got them from doesn't state. However seemingly identical ones sold on Amazon say carbide: Micro Drill Bits

    I prefer Canon but amazing Nikon glass is so much cheaper than Canon these days. I mainly use a 300 2.8 & a 500 4 so cost was important!

    I try and not collect or I wouldn't stop. Moving to a much smaller property helped there. I'd definitely enjoy old cameras as long as I could use them. At the moment I just use a Nikon D5 & D850, though not for model pic usually!

    Very! In the not too distant past I've very much enjoyed large Lego kits but had to stop as however much fun they are they're VERY expensive per minute of entertainment.

    As ever a coat of Danish Oil to make the grain pop and varnish tomorrow. Happy so far.

    They have inbuilt RFID so they can check which to break! Hopefully the rest survive, if so a set per boat isn't the end of the world as they do drill very well.
