Decals was a disaster. Didn't realise that they'd got wet and I managed to put my hand in them while I was putting one on the Lancaster. So some were just ruined. So I tried my best with what I had left which fortunately was most of the larger visible ones. But then I had a go at an oil wash and I'm quite pleased with that, soi guess that's the ups and downs of modelling. Overall though I like it. Matt varnish and pop the remaining bits on and I think it'll be done

That's better! Next step is to mask off for the black. I'm using this as a learning project so after that I'm going to try my hand at some washes and then see if I can add some wear detail. Enjoying this build. And a new airbrush arrives tomorrow. I've decided that the cheap one I got isn't helping me improve. I've invested in the new for 2024 H&S evolution CR 2 in 1. Excited to try it out.

So it's all a learning curve. I had gaps in the colours when I took off the masking so I went back in with the brown and now I'm repainting the green. I've realised I need to do a better job with my masking off as well. In future I think I'll paint the model all in one colour first, whichever is lighter, and then mask off and paint the second colour. It's coming on though

I started this build earlier in January. And since then I've invested in an air brush, paints and various other bits and bobs. I've never used an airbrush before so this build for me is very much a learning curve. Here's my progress so far. I work abroad but live in the UK so I have a project on the go in both places. Currently, in Brussels, I'm just finishing the Airfix Titanic, my first ever build and then next up will be an Occre Polaris, I love the look of these wooden boats so wanted to try my hand. Once the Lancaster is finished my next UK build will be the Airfix 1/24 which I have to say having seen a lot of reviews and builds on YouTube, looks great. I'm really enjoying the model making, maybe I came across it just at the right time of life, albeit rather late! Any comments, suggestions or advice gratefully received.

Nearly there..... I might finish it tomorrow night. Well apart from some touching up here and there but the build will be done. I've really enjoyed this model and a good one to start with I think

Tried out the lights... And made a mess of the yellow line. Tomorrow's job is to try and sort it out

Fantastic. I've got this to model to start next, will also be my first wooden ship build. I hope I can do it the same justice that you have. Great work Bill

Back in Brussels so a little bit of work tonight, I've attached the decks together and put some lights into the hull. Managed to glue the battery pack under the base and get the wires up through the stand supports so it's all hidden. Then a quick dry fitting. Don't know if anyone can recommend a similar forum to this for model aircraft? I'm building an airfix Lancaster bomber back in the UK and wouldn't mind doing a similar thing to here. Any suggestions welcome.

Hi Kevin, from another new member. Great forum, it's been very helpful already, although I think you are much more accomplished than I am!

Hi All, So my Polaris has arrived, along with the Occre Work Stand, starter kit tool pack and paints recommended by Cornwall Model Boats, who have been very helpful, which were quite a bit cheaper than the Occre paint set. I've also invested (a term I use often when explaining all the parcels arriving to my very understanding and supportive Wife) in some files, a pin pusher, sanding sticks, glues and filler. I suppose there will be other purchases along the way. It's coming with me to Brussels and I'll start her once I've finished my Airfix Titanic. I've been reading through Ilia's build log, what has completed a fantastic Polaris and I'm sure I'll be returning a lot for inspiration and tips!

So I leave Brussels to head back to the UK tomorrow for a week or so, Titanic will have to wait to be finished. Waiting for me in the UK though is an Occre Polaris! Build log no doubt we'll be coming soon. Here's where I got to tonight. Next step is to connect all the decks and attach it all to the hull so not a bad place to leave it!

Hi Jan It's a good point, thanks. I'm following the instructions from Airfix and it isn't until step 44 ( out of 53) that the deck is attached. I have had a a dry run earlier and it looks ok, so fingers crossed!

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome. Please feel free to look at my first build, I've posted a couple of updates. Airfix Titanic 1/400. I'm quite pleased with it so far.

Tonight has been railings. Quite pleased with the result. Spent quite a lot of time filing the sprue bits off.

Congratulations, that is very cool. I'm not surprised it is a great finished product that yo made. I have bought the Polaris and will start it soon, will be my first wooden ship build, your build log has been very informative and I'm sure will be incredibly helpful. I can see a job offer from Occre for you in the future!!

Hi everyone Just joined and wanted to say what a fantastic site this is with some fabulous builds and so much information that I've only just begun to search through. I've just started modelling (at over 50 years young!) And I'm currently working on an Airfix Titanic 1/400 and I've got an Occre Polaris ready to go next. I thought it would be good to try different materials. I live in the UK but spend quite a lot of time in Brussels, so the modelling will be a great evening hobby while I'm away from home. Basically I'm just hoping to improve my skills ( I use that term very loosely) and learn about the hobby and the history. Just bought the Frank Mastini, Ship Modeling Simplified book for some research which I'm looking forward to reading. Nice to meet you all and any advice or help you can offer along the way I would be very grateful for. James
