P-51D Mustang by CDW - FINISHED - Dragon - 1:32 Scale
chadwijm6 replied to CDW's topic in Non-ship/categorised builds
You can certainly see the difference in this photo. I imagine it will look different in different lighting. Definitely worth the effort Craig it looks tremendous. -
I've filled in my mistakes. And they've had a sanding and a coat of varnish which I'll leave to dry and then apply another. I'm pleased with the outcome, it's not perfect but it's better than it was. Work can now continue with building it instead of rectifying mistakes, until the next one of course!

After the disaster that was the Scrappee today, burning out a motor, I'm pleased that I've still got my sea king. Interior is done and now assembling the pod that Airfix use for cockpits and interiors on their new tooling kits, the spitfire had a similar process. I've weathered the blue seats a bit, using acrylic washes for the first time, to try and give them a 'been out at sea' look. I'm not unhappy with it but I think I prefer using oils.

Well, I've managed to burn out the rudder motor by fitting the wire on the wrong way round so it was catching on the servo. Talk about rookie mistakes. Jon at Microaces has offered to repair it which is very nice of him and also sent a helpful photo to stop me making the same mistake again. I've ordered another one as well because I'd like to get it finished. Other than that it is built now but the test flight will have to wait for a bit. -

The body, tail, wings and nose are done. I feel like it's not my best work, it's very different to working on an airfix model. But it seems to be ok, a little out of line though so it was be interesting to see if it actually flies in a straight line 🤞🏻 Next is adding power! -

I was up early so a bit more work has taken place. I've glued the body onto the airframe now and then started to build up the tail. Looking at the model it's ever so slightly not straight. I think I might have glued the plastic to the airframe 'keel'? too tight on one side. I'm hoping it didn't affect the flight too much but it's done so I'll have to live with it. Otherwise coming together well. -

Hi Richard I emailed Jon at Microaces to see what I should buy. The kit comes with the motor and prop and then you can order the receiver from them which I did. It's the Microaces All In One (AIO) 5CH Micro Receiver. And he recommended a couple of transmitters, I went for the cheaper one because I'm not sure how much I'll actually use it, but of course I want to try it, so I bought a Flysky FS-i6X 10CH Radio Transmitter from Amazon. Regarding the battery and charger he recommended the E-Flite EFLB1501S25 as the one to get with a little USB charger EFLC1008 that charges one battery at a time. Well be interesting to see how it all comes together -

Well this is a very different build experience. But enjoyable. Here's the list of parts, the quality looks to be very good. Started with the airframe essentially the styrene is reinforced with thin plastic parts. And then you start to build up the nose of the plane I made a mistake here and put the large support on the wrong way around 🙄, fortunately I realised in time... Here it is corrected Next is to add more supports and magnets And then I got to put part of the body on and that's where I got up today. There's a guide to score and bevel the exterior body parts and the instructions are fairly straightforward, unless you're like me and can't read them and put his in the back to front! -
AMC DH9 by davec - FINISHED - Wingnut Wings - 1/32

Yeah a real shame that they don't exist anymore although I understand that a number of ex-staff have started Kotare models now but as yet only have a spitfire in 1/32 available. I'd have been happy to pay the original WNW prices but in the UK they are on eBay for £200 currently. I'm a bit jealous of your stash!! 😀 -

Really coming on and looking great. Excellent work. I'd love to try a Wingnut Wings kit but they're so expensive that I can't quite trust myself to do it justice. Maybe one day. In the meantime it's great to follow your build. -
The deck is attached to the false keel and some beech wood filler has been ordered to try and rectify the mistake that @ibozev pointed out, fingers crossed that it doesn't look too bad. Just waiting for the reinforcement parts to dry before sanding beings

Hi Richard It's made from Depron which is an extruded polystyrene foam. They make lots of different kits but this is any easier one to fly apparently, for beginners like me. Here's the website - https://microaces.myshopify.com/ -
Quick update and a bit more painting has been done. Not at all happy with the colour of the seats so I've ordered a different blue but in the positive side I've added a bit of lighter shading to the grey flooring and I'm pleased with that. Also today my Scrappee RC arrived, so I might start building that at the weekend (I've started a log, the link is in my signature, if you want to follow along) Modelling is the hobby that keeps on giving!

As part of my ever growing interest in modelling I'm going to build a radio controlled micro plane from Microaces, the Scrappee Liaison. Jon at Microaces has been extremely helpful, as this is my first radio controlled anything, so he gave me advice on all the bits I'll need including a transmitter & receiver. It's arrived very quickly and the boxing is impressive. Looking forward to this.

So I've been building up the interior. Because I've bought the Eduard accessories there's been quite a few fiddly bits, the backs of the pilots chairs for example, and then quite a lot of removing the detail that Airfix had spent a lot of time putting in to the model for the radar, cockpit controls etc. Anyway ready for primer now. It is a very detailed model so far.

As I'm new to the hobby, since December 23, I've been looking at lots of kits to build. I have started to gather a bit of a collection, planes, cars, tanks (Airfix had a great deal for a mystery bundle) and 2 wooden boats, which will keep me going for months. But I do love helicopters. This airfix Sea King has been getting lots of good reviews, there are some fantastic builds on you tube. I've bought the Big Ed accessories pack from Eduard to enhance it slightly. I've decided to go with the HU.5 version of the kit, mainly because I like the colours!
