    I bought the Amati 4090/07 to replace the fiddly chainplate assembly included in the Sergal SOS kit. I hoped it would be easier to assemble. I assumed wrong. I have concluded that is impossible to get the dead eye into the brass loop. The brass loop is simply too small/string too short for the dead eye to fit. I resumed using the assembly included with the kit.

    Count me in. My favourites are 17th century war ships, with their splendid ornaments, and four and five masted barques. However, I am under no illusions that I would see 1/80 scale kit of something like the Passat or the Preussen, but I certainly hope for a HMS Prince or another large war ship from the same era.

    Any insights as to why they didnt make it into production? To expensive to manufacture? I would assume both the Prince and Cutty Sark would be popular subjects. Mantua have basically sold the same Sovereign of the Seas kit for over 50 years. A modern kit design of a 17th century war ship would have been nice. I certainly would like to have both the Prince and Cutty Sark!

    Yes. I was refering to the new kit. See post 15-22 in this thread.

    I have been looking forward to this kit from the moment I heard about it, but I guess we can safely assume by now that this kit suffered the same fate as Amati Victory. It is a pity that there exist a fully developed kit that will not reach the market. It must cost a significant amount of money to develop it.

    You can look forward to an epic and interesting build. It is not as difficult to build as rumours says. Is this an older version of the kit? Mine came with the keel in one piece; not in walnut as yours but light colored ply like the frames. Judging from the pictures it seems yours came with strips for deck planking. Mine came without but with scribed decks. Mine also came with balsa for the first planking instead of lime.

    I have no experience with any of the Cutty Sark kits out there, but I suspect that the best one might be the Woody Joe 1/80 kit (they have a 1/100 also). I own the 1/80 Nippon Maru kit (not yet started) and the quality is impressive.
