    So, to conclude, I did find somewhere to get this item printed out....cost was about $52 including shipping. There are collection grids forcrwo different drum diameters. Looking forward to using this in the near future....

    Now I just need to find somewhere to get it printed...!! I have no idea what "level" of service this would need - obviously its not a tight tolerance build..... Anyone have ideas or advice? Thanks!

    Those look interesting but I found the one I saw earlier!! https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:5543901 The thing I like bout this one is that you could have both hands free to maneuver the part being sanded.....

    Thanks Jean-Paul, I did see that but its not the one I was looking for. That one was used with a Dremel tool and a drum sander. It was a really nice way of having both hands free while a vacuum cleaner sucked away the dust! I'm sure it will pop up once I stop looking for it!

    At some point in the last few of months, I saw a post "somewhere" of a 3D printed dust collector that was built to mount with a Dremel tool (or similar ) and catch the sanding debris with a shop vac. The poster provided the files necessary to print the unit and I thought I'd downloaded and saved them, but apparently, I didn't. I have not been able to find anything here using the search feature..... Does anybody remember seeing this tool posted and can you point me to the article? Thanks! Dale

    Good evening, My name is Dale, I'm a recent retiree and I'm looking forward to getting back into ship modelling and a couple of other hobbies. I joined MSW and NRG a month or two ago and have been doing a lot of reading. I'm hoping that I can improve to get even 50% as good as some of the practitioners on this site! Originally from Yorkshire in the UK, I've been in the marine field since leaving school, have been in Florida for the past 40 years, and will be making the move to Cadiz in Spain before the end of this year. Consequently, I'm very limited as to what I can build until the move is complete. However, I've been "stocking up" so I can hit the floor running when I get to the new house. First up will be the NRG planking and rigging kits followed by a "couple" of kits by Model Shipways and others..... Anyway, I'm looking forward to making some sawdust and participating in this group as soon as possible! Dale

    Chuck, I've really enjoyed the expansion of this thread from what I thought was originally just a simple question, just goes to show how much fun everybody can have when the get involved with a hobby!! The biggest problem I had was trying to match the on line MARA colours with pictures of models....nothing seemed to match up, which gels with your comment about colours looking different when laid up as rope. I'm dying to get going with my new Syren Ropewalk! 😉 The darker color on your test rope looks to match the referenced model very well and would look great on a light coloured model (opinion from a novice!) . Maybe a shade or two lighter than you normal "tarred" might just give a little variation if you aren't sold on all one colour... Thanks for all the information you freely share, it is really helpful!     Newby question...!! I'm looking forward to having a go at making scale ropes with my incoming rope walk.... I had a look at the available colors for Mara thread - I thought there may be a few similar but different hues but the range is expansive! What colors (numbers) do you use for standing and running rigging? Thanks! Dale
