pete48 reacted to NAZGÛL in Wasan 1628 by Nazgul - FINISHED - Billing Boats Vasa 1:75
Here is where I'm at with the masts:
First I scratched the front parts for the bowsprit.
Then I started with the first märs and it's is almost finished. As I will add skanskläder later on the sides of it will not be visiable. Therefore I focused on the top and bottom sides.
I don't have the skills to scratch the whole thing and decided to use the main round part is from the kit.First thing I did was to weather and add planks to its top and bottom to make it look more realistic.
I only used two of the kits rings to get it closer to the original proportionwise, otherwise it would far to tall.
As I have some spareparts from earlier I could double the number of parts that hold the rings. I had to remake the taller ones. Also added short scratched details.
All parts where painted with washes before and after assembly and also some drybrushing.
All in all this is made up from 66 parts and I will add a couple of details more and skanskläder and even if it's beyond the kit verion, it's still simplified compaired to the original, so indeed they are quite complicated constructions.

pete48 got a reaction from themadchemist in Muscongus Bay Sloop by pete48 - FINISHED - SMALL
Today I decided to work on the Cockpit Floor for Keel # 4 , I first laid out the Cockpit Floor so that the Bildge could be accessed, Then figured out where the Bench would go . I then cut out strips of 1/64" Birch ply and roughed in the Pieces. Then fine tuned them Painted the edges Black ( I got a little sloppy ) and glued it up . This is the First one I have done like this . I will do the same for the Fish well Deck . I did start to cut out the bench sides and proped them up for the Photo. Here are the results

They are looking great. I like how the stern meets the deck on the left hand boat. That is very classy looking. Beautiful work.

Today I finally got the final coats of paint on Keel # 3 for a total of 9 including 2 coats of primer, I got that fiberglass gloss that I was hoping for, I then shaped the rudder and sprayed 2 coats of primer. I then turned my attention to Keel # 4 I first installed the winow glass . ( I use the plastic from X-Acto blade refill packages ) I then made the cabin top, the hatch rails ( I found a unique knot in the wood that I used for the inside face of the inside hatch rail ) and installed them I then took some Birch ply for the cabin face then installed some Mahogany for the drop board rails . Here are the results

Yesterday I installed the Transom and started fairing. Today, I finished fairing the Frames to get it ready for planking, I then soaked 1/4" X 1/16" X 24" strips in alcohol . After the fairing was complete, I then was able to get 4 rows of planking installed . Here are the results

Today I started by squaring up the frames in the Cockpit section. I then decided to cut in 2 Cockpit Floor Stringers, ( 3/ 32 " square stock )I figured I would square and plumb this section of the boat first. ( this would be from stations 6'- 0" to 13' - 6" ) after that section was glued , I then installed the rest of the frames working from the cockpit to the Bow. By working this way has kept the Boat square and plumb ( I am very pleased ) Next will be to install the rib bands the Transom and fair the frames. Here are the results

Well it happened, I found the box containing the Buzzards Bay , I was begining to think that I would never see the box again . I unpacked all the frames and the keel and dry fit all the frames, There are 3 frames that I will replace with new ones and square everything up and start building. Here are the results

pete48 reacted to AntonyUK in The Black Pearl by AntonyUK and Alex - Hatchette Works - Scale 1/56, fun build
Hello fellow ship modellers.
A update as promised.
The fitting of the parts is tight if you don't remove the charring from the laser cutting.
Contours look nice although the bulkheads have yet to be sanded.
The method used in assembly is fool proof and holds the keel very straight.
The stand has some very nice shape and design
We have decided that we will not continue the magazines and will cancel the subscription.
BUT this does not mean that we are not going to finish what we started..
We are going to do our own version of the Pearl with pictures from the web.
Should be fun and we can call the shots on what Alex wants in the ship
Will be using Birch ply for the remaining components of the build. And all sorts of hardwood timber that I have accumulated.
Many thanks for looking in.
Regards Antony and Alex

pete48 reacted to russ in Biloxi schooner by Russ - FINISHED - 1/48 scale - POB
John:
Thanks. With a little (and I mean a little) spare time, I have been able to make some progress and it always feels good to be able to lose oneself in the process.
Keith:
Thanks for the kind words. I really like the sheer line. When I drew the plans, I thought it would look nice, but it has surpassed my expectations. Martin Fountain knew a thing or two about designing schooners. The details of the hawse pipe lips and the cut water trim were done in boxwood. That material made the difference in creating those details.
I will have my camera and will take some pics at the boat show. Right now, it looks like we should have very mild temps and lower humidity. That will make it very pleasant.
Pete:
Thanks for looking in. I appreciate it.
Thanks also for all the likes. I appreciate that as well.

This morning I awoke and started wet sanding Keel # 3, in that process, I dropped the boat and broke off the bow of the cutwater, I decided to just round it off .once I fixed it so that it would look halfway decent, I spayed 2 coats of gloss white. next I will wet sand again and sprat 2 more coats. ( I wanted to capture the tumblehome and the transom in 2 of the photos )Here are the results
