I was wondering what is the best method of making the compound cut where the hull planking meets the stem of the ship?

Don do you mark the angle first or do you just whittle away at the plank till it fits? Thanks for commenting

Hi Greg.

I tend to start at the Stem when I am planking.

There is sometimes a rebate in the stem to allow the planks to fit. If not I would add one.

I shape the plank first with all the tappers and featherings done then I offer the plank to the stem and draw the line to match the angle of the stem.

I then use a razor saw to trim to rough size. Then adjust the angle to match the rebate with sandpaper or sharp knife.
