  1. Sherry that's a beautiful job you have done on that violin! WOW.
  2. Tom on page 443 of the USS constitution build, what thickness of styrene were you using? All I have is .020 and seems too thin. Thanks in advance.
  3. Absolutely great work! Your paint details are perfect. I can only hope to paint that well.
  4. Jesse your Syren looks great! I truly enjoy keeping up with your build.
  5. Ken I ordered your book thru Amazon yesterday. I look forward to reading it. Thanks
  6. Sjors you and your wife have done a great job. Keep up the great work.
  7. Andy I hope you get back to your Diana soon. You have a very nice build going!
  8. I have the micro scrapers and after a little practice I found that the basswood that a lot of models come with seems to be too soft. I used pear wood and held the scraper straight up at 90 degrees and they worked great. These micro scrapers don't have a burr edge so holding at an angle didn't work at all for me. Straight up worked best for me.
  9. Phil I had my cataract surgery done on both eyes in Feb and March of 2018. I am so glad I did. I have 20/20 vision for distance and only need reading glasses for close up things. Each surgery only took about 15 minutes. Total time was about 2 hrs because of preparation before and after. Overall a great experience for me.
  10. Thank you to everyone for your help. This is my first attempt at wooden ship building and I truly am enjoying it. The tape stayed down for about two weeks and then slowly started lifting. I'm probably mishandling the tape with my fingers touching the sticky side too much as was stated. I wish there was a video I could watch of someone actually putting on the copper tape so I could see how they are doing it. I learn easier by watching someone do a project. Thanks again.
  11. My copper tape is lifting up where it overlaps the adjacent tape. I burnish it well, so I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. Is there a fix or do I need to start over? Thanks

About the NRG

If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.

The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.

The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
