Solid hull conversion to POB?

I have a kit on the shelf for a future build, Blue Jackets' Alfred 1/8 (1:96) scale that is a sold hull construction.

 

I don't have stong interest in building a solid hull and am wondering if its in the realm of possible, to convert the sold hull to POB construction?

 

I'm thinking, if I saw the hull at predetermined bulkhead locations, I can use them as templates to cut new bulkheads, since the woodgrain will be wrong for strength? and just have to work-up a false keel?

 

Or am I creating a load of work for little gain?

The book "Planking Techiques for Model Ship Builders" by Donald Dressel goes into this. His focus is to create frames (POF) but he does say that his technique would also work to create bulkheads (POB). It was a very informative read for me and would I am sure be helpful on this endeavor

Do the plans not include a lines drawing?

I need to check to verify, but I believe the plans include line drawings since the instructions include creating hull templates for checking the final shaping of the hull.

The lines drawing is where I would start to do a POB conversion. No sense sawing up the hull if you have the hull lines.

True, although it may be an easy way to make bow and stern bulkhead fillers

You may also be able to work from the hull templates for some of the bulkheads.  Depending upon how many are provided, you may need to interpolate using the lines drawings to fill in gaps.

The fillers for the bow and stern can be gotten from the lines drawing. Everything you need would be in the three view lines.
