Hey all,new to all this.I appear to have inherited a model of HMS Bounty and wondered if anyone could shed some light on it for us.

Its big being 32 in long and 26 in high

Bounty is a very popular modeling subject, and a lot of kit manufacturers have offered a kit at one time or another. The contrasting wood colors on your model are typically what one sees in kits coming out of Spain, e.g. Artesania Latina, Constructo, or Dikar (now out of business). Any idea how old the model is?

Not sure of age,its certainly got some age but have no idea.Is there any way of knowing?

Also it looks as though some elements of the rigging have come adrift on the stern?

Hi Ironmonkey and welcome!

 

Could also be the Amati one. 

Size is an easy indication to go by, could you measure it? 

The Artesania kit is larger than the others, just shy of 1m. The Amati and Constructo should be just above 70cm overall, with the Constructo one closer to 80cm.

 

Maybe someone who has the kits can recognise the brass castings in your last photo?

Good idea -- a shot from directly astern may be a give-away.

We are also wondering if the cost of the minor repair is going to be worth it as we have no idea.

Now I'm thinking that this must surely be one of the older Spanish kits, e.g. Constructo.

 

The issue of a "minor repair" can be ticklish. Of course, it depends on how much work actually has to be done, but generally speaking repair work isn't cheap -- and that presupposes that you can actually find somebody willing and able to do the work. But if the model is otherwise in good shape, re-securing a few loose items, such as lines and blocks, may be something you could do yourself.

Yeah i'm thinking the same.Have a history lesson with some research and maybe gingerly looking at having a careful look at it.There is only a couple pieces of rigging come adrift.Not sure

If those few bits at the stern are all that's loose, some of our champion rigger guys should be able to advise you. From here, the rest of the model looks to be in pretty good shape.
