Davits for whaleboats on Kate Cory scratch model

Recommended Posts

I'm scratch modeling the Kate Cory from Ronnberg's plans. Two of the whaleboats have the forward davit on the main deck and the aft davit on the quarterdeck, which is about 1 scale ft. higher than the main deck. The plans and supporting information do not address whether the davit heights were adjusted to the same height (i.e. parallel to the waterline) or were the davits were all the same height, regardless of deck position. I realize that the difference is not great, about 1/4" over the 5 1/2 " between the davits, but I'm curious to know what the correct practice is or at least to know how other modelers have dealt with this issue.

Thanks,

Roger

This photo may help. It's a part of Ronnberg's model of Kate Cory in the New Bedford Whaling Museum

Not the best photo but they appear to all be the same height above the waterline.

You could also try sending an email to the Cape Ann Museum where Mr. Ronnberg is a curator - curatorial@capeannmuseum.org

Cheers -

John
