Today I installed the Fore topmast shrouds and back stays. The inner and out stay is terminated under the fore deck. To any Flying Fish builders, how did you accomplish this? I described what I did in this post: The summary is that I ran the forestays through the relevant locations (bees or hole in the jibboom) and the dolphin striker (if relevant) and then fed it through a hole I drilled in the bulwarks. At each location where the lines changed direction, I put a drop of CA glue to hold it in place, so that by the time I got to the hole in the bulwarks it would stay taut without having major strain on that one drop of glue (the line had 2 or 3 glue drops holding it in place. My recollection is that I ran enough line through the hole that I could snag it with a tweezer and hold it tight while the CA set (maybe 30 seconds). It worked for me, buy YMMV. My issue is not with your wonderful work....it is with the representation of the house's front facade. McKay used quite a bit of decorating and details. He always went above and beyond in his finishings. I'm quite disappointed in the representation that this particular scale drawing, (used by you and many others), which depicts the Flying Fish with such meagre...barn like features. Quite unbecoming of any other McKay design and or description we have of many of his other ships. This, in no way reflects on your skillful execution. McKay's last clipper... Glory of the Seas, was quite ornamental. A stark contrast to the Flying Fish. MikeR Posted March 16 Author Share #126 Posted March 16 Rob I still have to add on the fancy carved corner knees for the roof. I never tried carving before so that is what the holdup is. I did have a scalloped molding that went under the roof line, but I did not liked the way it looked so I removed it. I am still plan on trying a different design. I have been working on the iron work for the lower yard, topsail yard and the top gallant yard. These were silver soldered , then placed in an acid bath to clean them. I thought about trying to repair it, but it is the base of the top gallant shrouds so I had to replace it. I really felt bad cutting most of the rigging off, but it had to be done. MikeR Posted April 11 Author Share #132 Posted April 11 Rick, I run into that problem too. I have dropped many items and found a few while looking for them on my hands and knees. I probably spent more time looking than the time spent making the item. I made and installed a new top mast crosstree, I replaced the cut away rigging, installed the chains for the Bowsprit and ran the rest of the running rigging. I am working on the braces and have completed the braces for the skysail yards, the royal yards, and the topgallant yards.
