HMS Pandora by jastrząb - Constructo - 1:85

I still feel hazy about coppering the hull. On one hand it would be quite a new experience for me but on the other hand, inaccuracy is not good then (how to make rivets at the scale of 1:85???) Without rivets it would b a bit strange. Any ideas about the dimensions and how to make them? I was thinking of using a needle or a very thin drill (0.1mm). 

What do you think?

 

Full size plates were 48" long.  Width about 14" if I recall correctly.

At smaller scales the plates don't look too odd without the nails.  You'd drive youself nuts trying to replicate a nail pattern.

Amati does a 1/72 plate that is less than 1mm too wide and about 2mm longer, and would probably look fine as well.

So the dimensions of the plates at my scale would be 14mm long and 4mm wide. Am I correct? 

 

And Colin, I agree that it would be a bit insane to do the rivets

Here I go again,

 

Having completed Santa Maria, I am going to start building Pandora.

Now the keel is going to be "straighted" I put some clamps and the keel between the planks and I hope they will manage.

Today, I have been thinking of the windows. The metal cast was not empty so I had to drill out the windows. Maybe they are not as perfect as I would wish but...

I thought of cutting out a piece transparent foil and using a piece of white sticker paper. I cut out the horizontal and perpendicular stripes, glued them to the foil and - look at the outcome. I think it's not so bad, don't you?

The windows are almost ready...

The white stripes are very helpful to immitate the parts of the windows.

I started with the keel. I had to make it straight. Now everything's fine. I must say that the parts (most of them) fit nicely (apart from the bow's reinforcements).

 

I want to add some LEDS in the stern's part.

 

Any ideas what would be the best solution? I will ask today in my local shop but any cooments are still welcome

Hi ,a quick report. I have managed to finish the captain's office and the fore deck. It takes a lot of time but the results do not seem to be so obnoxious, I hope...

Hello Pawel, are you still building?

I am currently attempting a complete restore of this kit. The original builder was enthusiastic but seemed to be using his own plans, and lots of glue.

I coppered the bottom which covered the planking nicely and am now re-building the deck furniture according to AoSP as far as possible. The transom plate and quarters were fixed in place using builders Stick's like, and two hidden small screws. It was quite a job getting the position correct and creating new wales etc.
