Hey ya’ll!
I’m currently working on the bulwarks on a Buccaneer by OcCre and I am really struggling with two specific issues.
1. Getting the posts that hold up the bulwarks for the railing to be all the same length.
2. When trying to sand down the posts to get them to be even lengths the buggers keep snapping off (I’ve tried using wood glue and high performance adhesive)

I’ve attached a photo. Any suggestions are welcome.  TYIA.

What are you using to sand them down?  A sandpaper block may have too much back & forth force that it is breaking the glue adhesion.  Do you have a Dremel or similar tool that has the round sanding discs?  That always worked well for me to knock down post heights.  And, sand down to the top plank on the installed bulwarks.

when you fabricated the posts, why werent they all made the same size or follow the plans more accurately?

the dremel may be the best answer to take them down. but after making them all even with the shortest ones, will they then all be too short?

how about removing them and redo it correctly? it wouldnt be too hard to take m off if sanding is knocking them off.

I assume you are going to put some bulwark planks on, correct? If so, put on the planks and Dremel the down to size once you are done. The extra adhesive on the planks will keep the from flying off. I've done that before with good success.

George

Adding bulwark planks is the way to go. If there aren't going to be any try clamping a piece of planking to each post ( or as many as you can ) to support them as you sand. Also if you line up the top of the temporary plank to the right height it will be easier to get them all even.
