A Quick Fix

 

I thought I would do a quick post about how I resolved a mistake of mine. I know a lot of fellow modelers will already know how to do this, however I thought it might prove useful to fellow neophyte ship modelers like myself. I do apologise if this is falling into "teaching your grandmother to suck eggs territory".

 

On to the mistake I have made. 

 

Either through over soaking of my stern gunwales or my bulkheads being to far raised, I have ended up with a bit of a gap between my gunwales. To rectify this, I have cut out two pieces of pear wood and layered them on top of each other.

 

The pear wood after being shaped with 240 grit sand paper. This was then further sanded with a 3200 Fexi File Flex Pad. A bit of watered down wood filler (Elmer's Interior) was then used to fill the two joints. 

 

The finished gunwale repair. I think overall I am happy with the outcome.

Build Log 6 - Gunwales,Chess Trees,Bow Timbers,Catheads,Channels and Inner Bulwark fittings.

 

Welcome to my build log. This is the work I have been able to do on Adder over the last week or so.

 

Adders Gunwales have had their final coat of paint. I am still to add the PE (Photo etch) parts for the hammock rigging. This will be done after I have rigged the guns as I know I will just end up catching them.

 

The steps have been added after a coat of AK Interactive Matt Varnish and AK Interactive black paint for the top step. The channels have also been added after a coat of Matt Varnish. PE rings where added if needed. 

 

Bow Timbers where added. I test fitted the Bowsprit and sanded the Timbers accordingly. They were given a coat of varnish and paint as described above.

 

The Catheads have been pre drilled before painting as I want to rig them at the appropriate time.

 

Inner Bulwark's have had various items attached including, cleats, belaying rails and PE (Photo etch) parts. 

 

Adder as she currently stands.
