Received this model as a Xmas present many years ago. As a lot of modelers due lost interest and filed it in a dark closet. After finishing USN Picket Boat #1 and waiting for Model Shipways Bluenose to come in and sitting around getting bored I entertained either resuming USS Constitution or watching TV. When I found U-Boat 47 I decided to resurrect the build. There is only 1 build logged in 2015. The kit looks complete but the hull has sustained very minor damage. There is an extensive amount of photo etched brass. The Model Shipways acrylic paint is dried up which is no problem because loggers who followed my last builds know I much prefer Liquitex Basic Acrylic Fluid paints. The time has come to go under the sea and I invite all loggers to join me and my granddaughter on our next ADVENTURE!!!

As always Best Rick

I saw this model at a swap meet a while back!  I never knew Amati made a U-Boat model.  It looked really great, but it was too rich for my blood and I figured I wouldn't get to it in any reasonable amount of time, so I let it get away.

Now I'll get to watch your build, which is almost as good.

One thing about these Italian kits is that now translating the instructions is easy with Google Translate.  Even with an image, you can get the translation you need, like this.

Thanks Dan. Since it is a Vintage Kit I’m sure that the price was inflated. I looked it up on eBay and it’s for sale in the $400-700 range. From what I remember I thought it was a pretty impressive kit and it has my attention. You’re welcome aboard on our adventure.

Before we can get back to the war a lot of build and repair ahead. Stripped off as much of the brass I could that needed straightening and a minor repair to the brass substructure. Just finished checking out the repairs. My mate and I signing off for the night.

With the presence of the Revell kit in 1/72nd scale, you should have no problem finding spare parts and details in the market. I will be watching your Build Log with a lot of interest.

Hi Yves

The kit came with extensive amount of photo etched brass detail.  All the guns are individual small plastic kits etc. I ordered yesterday a book that made       U-47 famous. By the way since you are following the build you are part of the crew.

Very nice. I'm looking forward to following this one.

What's going on with your Ebay Bluenose shipping ? Did the stagecoach get held up by bandits? 😆

Bandits are faster and more honest than USPS. STILL DUE TO ARRIVE BY THE END OF THE WEEK. I HOPE!

I JUST SIGNED YOU ON THE CREW AS SECOND MATE.

Well the first mate and I completed some extensive repairs before actually getting into resuming the build. Most of today was spent dealing with deck and intake ports (gluing filling sanding and soldering). Depending on the length of time the build takes it looks like it will be a while before we set tosea.
Signing off for the night.

Suns up I’m up and U-47 begging to be sanded and spot filled. The war is still on wait. After filling and sanding the best fille for any minor imperfections is auto body spot putty. It works and feathers great.
