Well I started this about a week ago . AdobeExpress-file.thumb.jpg.4fd1bd115127e310038439a8387eda5f.jpg

I was full of trepidation after opening the box as this is my first wooden kit but it was soon replaced with anticipation.

The keel went together without much trouble .

Then it was on the planking the deck . I enjoyed doing this although I think I may have to invest in a guillotine.

Then I started playing about with methods to age the deck.

I liked how this turned out so I decided to use this method on the deck

I've since been told this is inaccurate of a naval ship of this period as the decks would of been scrubbed within an inch of their lives . So I am pleading artistic license your honour .

I didn't really run in to any trouble until I started with the first layer of planking .

I did one side and it was far from perfect but I learnt a few things and the second side went much smoother

So after many hours sanding and shaping the bow formers today I have decided to give her a quick skim of filler to rectify my atrocious planking efforts .

So I'm currently sat with a large glass of red wine . Waiting for the filler to dry .

It's been frustrating and fun so far .

I'll have another go tomorrow and see if I can get the hull smooth enough to start the 2nd layer of planking / veneer .

Planking looks great. Great job for your first time. Remember when things go awry I always tell myself “A little plaster and a little paint will make things look like what they ain’t. Then I feel better.

Welcome to the Terror club - the hull is actually incorrect profile so that makes it harder to plank than it should of been - there are plenty of terror logs on here but beware if you read mine and keithS build logs as we went right down the rabbit hole!

'Looks like there is the "OcCre Terror bulge" in the hull amidships .. an anomaly needing additional sanding in the two affected bulkheads as part of the pre-planking fairing process.  Something similar got me too, in the old 1:100 Billings Wasa (ca. 1970) - so I just ignore it now.  Once everything topside on Vasa is pimped, it'll look well enough.

Thanks guys .

As it's my first wood build I'm gonna stay faithful to the plans.  I may go for a more accurate approach when I have more experience.

Ive been working on the ice bumpers / rubbing strakes for the last couple of days . I'm going to have nightmares about them ...

Not struggling as such.  But it's taking some time shaping them by hand .
