Hey there E .. The shipyard is still a tad cluttered but spacious (I know this sounds contradictory lol)  I still need to lay it out correctly and get to grips with where everything will go.. but for the moment I have  some stuff sitting about in plain sight if you follow (so I can more easily locate it) and bit by bit they will start to find their natural home,  for now I am locating all items associated with Rigging (tweezers, blades, wire, string/rope, blocks etc)  .. I'll post some photos of it as soon as it looks presentable  ☺️

Thanks for Stopping By Folks and for all the Likes

Hi Again Folks .... Well I found my Notes and decided to put The Ballier onto my new Build Table at long last !  .. 😎😁
I discovered that I had left off at putting eye Bolts in the Transom area,  so I got the 0.5mm Black wire out (a recent purchase to avoid having to chemically blacken) and twisted up 6 eye Bolts .. Needless to say my first one went flying across the room when I came to trim the excess off, Hmmmm.. I wasn't gonna let the wee devil escape that easily so I hunted it down and found it lurking under the Ballier Plans 🙂

Six holes drilled later and the glue came out ..  all going like clock-work so I decided to call quits on my First Day (cough cough ..Hour) Back ..

Oh by the way there are actual Photos coming up here ... Try to contain the excitement there folks 😉

PS latest additions are the 2 eye Bolts on the Transom Taff Rail & the 4 on Deck at the Transom itself

OK Folks ... New Build Room aka Attic Conversion/3rd Floor  aka North Face of the Eiger (Lot of Stairs to Climb) is complete and I have just installed the new work 'U' shaped bench and gave it a wipe of Danish Oil ..
Everything is back from storage and Ballahoo herself is now in the Build Room .. Woo Hoo (OK not actually on the Table but sure near enough 😊 ) only a bit of tidying away and I can begin filling my shinny new shelves with Boat Building Paraphernalia ..

Now where did I leave all that Rigging Research I did over the past few years ?  Darn It ..

Honeymoon Cruise around Italy coming up in a couple of weeks then I can get down to finishing The Ballier and opening another Build Log for ... Hmmm possibly Sherbourne (Have a few on the waiting list, but I always liked 'The Sherry' .. )

    Hi Eamonn,
Your Ballahoo is looking good - gives me inspiration and hope that one day my build will look like that!  I've had a good balsa day and hope to dry fit the blocks tomorrow; I'll send you a photo if it all works out.
    Kind Regards,
    David

Brilliant video Chuck.  As a novice it has helped me a lot to understand the process involved in planking a hull properly and has also helped me to relate to the previous guidance on 'lining off your hull for planking'.  I note the video said Part 1; when is Part 2 coming out!

Unfortunately I cant add to an order already submitted.  Its protection for you and your CC's are deleted immediately after the order is finalized.

This is how the traveler ring looks after rigging it.  The jibsail and foresail rigging is now completed.  All that remains to rig are the two yards....once I make them.   That will complete the rigging and then its the final stretch with a few additional details....anchors....flag....boarding ropes......and she is officially done.

Thanks, Eamonn. What was more interesting is that due to some unknown nautical connection of the owners of the racecourse, or even perhaps simply because of the connection with saddles, the USA Camptown races came to be known as Doo-dah days.

According to Herr Stiffl in his book "Phledersroppimbanken" in the 2nd edition of 1348 I believe he called it a Doodah although it was unclear which language he was writing in at the time. It was later taken up in the phrase 'dead as a Doodah'.

Hi All .. Photo Update Time .. Woo Hoo I hear you say!!

Well I have finally finished the Boom Support on the Mast  doodah (my build room is pretty cold at the mo.. as I'm ducking in and out as opportunity arises and there is no point in turning the heater on as I'd be finished before it heats up the place  )

Anyhoo .. re the photos .. The Mast isn't fixed in place yet, still some more to do there, not least the Mast Coat where it enters the deck, and to attach all the various Blocks etc
The 2nd photo shows kinda what the Boom will look like in place resting on the Support (I still don't know what the doodah is called)

Hi Again David .. That's exactly what I used .. Black Auto Motive Tape (the kind of stuff used for 'Go Faster Stripes'  ) Cut into thin stripes and wrapped around the bowsprit (and also as 'strengthening' on the Rudder Head area ) a small dab of CA seals the ends (even though the tape is self adhesive I don't want it to unravel later)

Looking forward to the photos of Pickle

Hi Eamonn:  in my last post I forgot to ask you about your simulated cranse iron, which I particularly like.  Have you used black tape rather than black cardboard and was it easier to work with?
I'll PM some Pickle photos when I've got something worth showing you!

Excellent work Eamonn.  Your Ballahoo modifications are superb.  As you can see from my signature, Sherbourne is back on the shelf and I've started Pickle.  All the very best.

Hi Again Folks .. Well I have the Bob Stay and the Bowsprit Shrouds done and in place,  they are only temp tightened at the moment .. final tightening will take place much later (along with all the rigging)
The shrouds are slightly thinner 'rope' than the Bob Stay
I just need to Blacken the Shroud Hooks and cover them all (the Served Ropes) in watered down PVA Glue to keep fuzzies at bay

Hi Frank ... Thanks for stopping by and for the nice comment, I've been busy over the past few days with small detail work (kinda difficult to photograph without bringing out the big guns, but time hasn't allowed for that so I'll stick with the fairly trusty Camera Phone  .. and to be honest it probably does just as good a job for this kinda work .. though I could have held it steadier .. Oh Well   )

The first photo is a close up of the 'Cranse Iron' on the tip of the Bowsprit.. I know the block should have an 'eye' in it but I'm happy enough with it.

Photo Number 2 is of the Base of the Bowsprit where I secured it with a bar through the bits and the B'Sprit itself, I then fed a small 'Locking Pin'  through a hole previously drilled in the Bar (0.3 mm hole for the Pin and the Bar itself is 0.75mm .. that was fun  ) and fitted a line from the Pin to a small eye in the bitt.
Photo 3 is of the Bob Stay which has just been Served with a Hook 'spliced' at the Bowsprit End and a Metal Eyelet 'spliced' into the other end .. I will be using a lanyard rove between this Eyelet and a Ring already in place on the Bow near the waterline .

I need hardly say that all of the above are not per Kit Instructions...     which calls for a much less satisfactory approach.

The Bowsprit Shrouds will be done in a similar manner to the Bob Stay .

Thanks For Stopping By Folks and Thank You for all the Comments & Likes .. Always Appreciated .

Eamonn: I've made a slow start with Sherbourne but, rather than clutter your build-log, I'll message you a photo or two in due course.  I've bought some pear wood for the hull, maple for the deck, rigging rope, cannons, swivel guns, and blocks from Chuck, so I'm really looking forward to this build.

    Hi Eamonn,
I've not been receiving notifications so I wasn't aware that you were back in your workshop and updating your log.  Your Ballahoo is looking fantastic.  I agree entirely with your comments about the anchor.  The more I look at my model, the more I feel the kit anchor is too big in relation to the overall size of Ballahoo.   However, I'm now busy with Sherbourne, so any changes to my Ballahoo will have to wait!
    Take Care,
    Kind Regards,
    David

Hi All ... Just a written update this time ..

I have the Rudder reinforcing band in place.. not sure what it is called but it's the 'metal' band that sits at the rudder head just where the Tiller joins with the Rudder itself (you know the piece I'm talking about  don't make me go look up its proper name.. Pleeease   )
Also attached the 'Metal' Band at the end of the Bowsprit .. I will drill it and attach 4 eyes there later, as I wont be able to remove the Bowsprit once they are in place .. the Kit Plans call for all attachments (Bobstay, Stays & Shrouds) here to be simply tied to the end.

For the 'Metal' Bands I have used self adhesive Black Tape (Automotive Tape .. Think 'Go Faster Stripe Tape etc) to which a small drop of CA has been used to keep the ends from un-doing . The Tape is approx. 0.5 cm wide and I cut long thin stripes off it to make the Bands.

Not much point in photographing these updates Folks as they are pretty small and will look better once the Eyes are in place with the Blocks attached ..

BTW I just Googled that Bowsprit Band .. a 'Cranse Iron' ..  Well there ya go !

All The Best Folks, Oh and Thanks for stopping by !

Hi David .. Great to hear from you again .. Yea, I've been back to Ballahoo again and thoroughly enjoying it .. One of the hardest parts of it has being having to practically relearn what I was planning on doing (if you follow .. good tip .. write stuff down Tee Hee )
I only have a few more minor deck pieces to put in place (for instance.. eyelets for guns around the empty gun ports and the like) then I'm onto the Masting And Rigging
I should love to see what you are doing with your Sherbourne BTW .. Please feel free to post them here or Messenger them to me if you prefer .. I bet she is a gem !
