You are all a great help to me and I appreciate it! It was fun planking the underside, even though it took a while which is good.I have no timetable and I know if I try to rush a step, Disaster will ensue! However, I wish Chuck would rush so I can swipe his ideas! Just kidding of course! Seriously, thank you all so much! Keep the tips and advise coming!

I am thinking of going in your direction on mounting. I am also thinking of not mounting. Let me ask, is it possible to have it just sit on some sort of cool looking blocks? I am planning on putting the the finished boat in a case. Thanks again for steering me on the planking basics. This week will be sanding the planks and stain.

Scale is 1:24. The planks on underside was the idea from Chuck S, who also has a Philly build going on. This is my first real build, so he has been very helpful. Any ideas, tips is greatly appreciated!!

Ship n Scale is not available retail. I can not find it anywhere. I guess I will order from the source. Chuck was the thin strip on bottom to simulate keel 3/8"? That is how wide it is..

Sternpost and stem glued to keel. However, keel is not glued to bottom as I am going to plank the underside. So far all looks pretty good. Tight solid fit. Using Titebond, so at least I can get mistakes apart for a re-do if needed. Did a parts inventory and all are accounted for. Also numbered parts for easy, quick access. I really enjoy taking my time and relaxing as I work on this. I am not in a hurry. I find it fun going slow and thinking each step out. Of course I have had a lot of help from Chuck! Can't wait to see his Philly get started!

Look forward to watching you guys and your builds! It will help me with mine no doubt. I have numbered all my parts as well. Also I take pictures of the plans, or sections of the plans on my phone and refer to those at the bench, that way the plan sheets are not in the way.

Taking a cue from Chuck, I am going to plank the bottom underside. It is not included in the kit, but heck, why not?

Well, After some prodding I am starting a build log on my recently acquired Model Shipways Gunboat Philadelphia. I am rather new to ship building, and anticipate a lot of fun trying to construct this boat. Fellow member Chuck Seiler (builder of a scratch Philly) has been very kind in offering up advice and tips. I welcome any advice. In fact, Please! Chuck is building the same kit, and I will shadow his progress gathering info and ideas. I have already inundated him with questions. So that being said, off I go to glue, cut, sand and try and figure how to build a boat!

I am building the same kit. I will watch Chuck closely and get some great knowledge! I am still in the study phase, identifying parts, sanding the laser marks etc.. Loved your scratch PHILLY!
