It's 1/2 in. I may plug the gap or extend the caps. I am going to think about it for awhile and move on. As soon as i learn how to post pictures I'll show you

In the kit there is a gap at the bow where the caps stop about a half inch from the bow. this leaves the frame and inards exposed. How did you handle this.

It looks great. On one of my older model I used a Swedish Oil, but haven't seen that product available

I agree I have learned more from this forum than I have in the 20 + years of model building.
Thanks for all your effort.

Good input Chuck.
I just finished planking the deck on the Confederacy, so I have a lot to do before I get to the Philly.

Thanks for the confidence builder. I haven't opened the box on Philly yet. I am following this forum to get insight into my next effort. I know I will go back and reread this many times. I have never planked a hull with wide boards, and that is what has me concerned,

I have this kit waiting in the wings, but with all the effort on fitting the planks I glad i have to finish the Confederacy first.

The main reason it took me 20 yrs to finish was that I retired an took up several antique car restoration project. I am now doing the Confederacy. While building the felipe i had it in a fixed stand and loosened part of the keel when I push on the side of the hull one time. I switched to the homemade styrofoam stand , and now can position the ship in any manner, lay it on the styrofoam, and have it fully supported.

I bought this kit in 1987, and completed it last year. It is a great model . I,ll follow this closely

I just ran into a problem. The bow rail from the kit do not line up with the post opening in the rail. The forward post opening in the rail is about 3/8 aft of the opening laser cut in the rail. Does anyone else have this?
