IgorSky reacted to Omega1234 in Majellan by Omega1234 - FINISHED - 1/200 - Luxury 37 m Motor Yacht - Miniature
Hi everyone
Many thanks for all of your comments and Likes! Greatly appreciated!
Tonight, I've continued to work on the hull...more sanding, more puttying, more shaping, etc, etc, etc. I hope I've been true to Ben's suggestions about the flare in the bow and the overall underwater's shape. If not, it's not too late to still work on it.
Anyhow, here's the results!
Cheers and thanks
Patrick

Hi everyone
I'm very grateful for all your comments and Likes. Keep'em coming, because it keeps me going!
Tonight, I've had a go at carving the wooden hull, based upon the clay mock up and advice from Ben and Bill. Here are some photos of the rough job so far. Heaps more sanding, patching and sanding and patching (you know the drill) to go. But at least it's a start.
Hope you're all well and all the best!
Cheers
Patrick

Hi everyone
I'm back!!! Thanks for all the well wishes-greatly appreciated!
Well, over the past couple of nights, I was able to use the wooden plug as the mould for Majellan's hull. The results are below, which show the rough hull removed from the plug. Please note that it looks rough and messy, only because it is! Next job is to sand all the putty off, add the transom, etc, etc.
Lots of work to go, but it's good to at least get back to building again.
Thanks
Patrick

HI everyone
A very quick update on Magellan's hull - still lots of sanding and puttying to go before I can get the mirror smooth finish that I'm after.
Lots of work, but lots of fun to go!
All the best everyone!
Cheers

Hi everyone
I've managed to do a bit more on sanding and puttying Majellan's hull. I think the shapely lines are finally starting to emerge now, especially the beautiful flare in the bow. Not bad, I reckon!
Also, in case you're wondering why I haven't done the transom yet, it's because Majellan doesn't have a normal transom as in most boats. Instead, the real ship has a stern door which lcan be lowered to reveal a large storage area for the ship's tender and other assorted gear, such as scuba gear, etc. Needless to say, I'll tackle the stern door when the internal fit out starts.
Anyhow, here are the photos of the progress, so far.
Cheers

Thank you Patrick!
Now I need to make a stand, the continuation of the rocks outside of the bottle and, possibly, the lighthouse tower. But I'll do it after returning from vacation.
Best Regards!
Igor.
P.S. It seems that the ship was called Concordia.

Not a problem at all! And, if you ever have a specific question, or something you want me to look at, always feel free to send me a PM or ask in your post, etc. I absolutely love sharing anything I have knowledge on as much as I love learning new things. It's never a burden to me.
I found an image I remember seeing that led to my comments on the hull - it is attached below:
I grabbed it from here:
http://www.flemingyachts.com/78layouts.html
It's a 78 foot boat, but the hull form (at least below waterline) appears to be what you are shooting for. In the profile picture, if you can see the line drawn out for the chine (it runs right above the prop from the transom to a bit forward of midship), see how it rises forward, then 'disappears' into the hull. As it rises, it's also softening, such that where it disappears is where the hull is completely faired all the way down to where the bulb starts to reverse the curve of the stations. On the link, if you look at the one plan view for the lowest decks, you can see how the bow gets quite narrow below waterline forward of midship, meaning the boat has a lot of bow flare forward, with a smooth entry faired into the bulb. Hopefully this helps illustrate the concept I was trying to express.
Looking forward to seeing what you come up with!

Thank you Patrick, the hardest part is now being home ( we got in last night ) and getting everything cleaned up, and making a list of the things that I will need for the Boat. ( I would love to have a smaller jib & a 130% Genoa to complete my Sail inventory )
Thank you Michael, Here are a few more Sailing pics , Next I will have to set up the Shipyard and get this Volvo buttoned up
Best Regards,
Pete

I have not posted anything in a while ( truth of the matter I have not been on the internet in a while) Kate and I have been sailing the past few months and are getting ready to go home ( in about 2 weeks ) here are a few shots of what its been like (very relaxing with some great Sailing ) the Boat handles beautifully ( even in a 30 knot breeze ) I should be back in the Boat Yard soon. BTW Thanks for all the birth day wishes

Hello waikiwi, Thank you for the compliment, to get the drawings, I took the profile plan, copied it on my flash drive, I then went to Kinko's copies had them print it out, I then took my architect's scale and subtracted a percentage of the original drawing to get the drawings to 1/4" = 1' - 0" ( it took some trial and error )
Best Regards,
Pete

Beautiful work Pete. love the boats you are making. May I please ask how you printed the plans? Ie did you print them a4 and enlarge the or do them on a bigger paper to start with, and if so what? Thanks
