Now is a good time to check the bowsprit piece. the knight heads are too far apart, I've added more supports closer together to make sure there is a tighter fit.

I notice that there is a gap between the planksheer and where the outer hull planking will be attached. this is one reason why I have not painted the waterway and planksheers yet. I will add some filler wood and file and sand them flush with the bulkhead also.

so now I have to file down the gun ports and sweeps which are protruding out. these supports must be flush with the bulkheads on the inside and outer hull

the cannon ports are slightly bigger on the plans than are allowed for on the build, I added a piece of wood to the tops of the bulkheads so I would have room to place some planking above the cannon ports as shown in the plans. I made a cannon port jig to check for exact size for each port.

I have added struts in between each bulkhead and mast supports, this is a common practice for all bulkhead models

I could not help but notice my work desk here is looking purdy rough. 20 years old and countless ship builds have left it scored really bad. Here is a pic of what it looked like when I first started building ships. This was my scratch build Ark Royal I was working on from the HMS Revenge Plans.

I have glued the bulkheads to the center keel. I stand the fair-a-frame upright so the glue does not run down past the bearding line into the rabbit. waited for the glue to dry overnight and then glued the forward side of each and repeated the process overnight.

thanks for the info, I have left off the sternpost so far, I was waiting for a good time in the build to place it on, your idea sounds good after the planking. thanks

I have filed down the slots in the center keel and bulkhead frames just enough so they accept each other without too much force.

I have added pins to the keel and stem at the seams., supposed to taper the stem , will do it later after its secured to the center keel. I will not attach the sternpost just yet till the filler blocks have been placed in and shaped.

ok, what type of paints are you using on bulwarks and waterway and planksheer, are the water base ,acrylic or enamels. I'm not sure if I'm going to use the typical palette of colors everyone has been using. I may use stains ,dyes, maybe some India inks.

Ken you should start a build log for us to follow and learn from your mistakes and experience. I'm shooting in the dark here with this kit.

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
